How exactly do medicinal drugs treat and prevent disease? How are they are discovered and tested? How do they affect society? If you want to delve deeper into these questions, this could be the course for you.

This course focuses on biological processes, rather than chemical ones. It examines how drugs affect their target areas (such as major organs and systems) and how the body reacts.

You'll study the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases, drugs that act on the brain (such as antidepressants), new drugs that treat cardiovascular disease, and the issues of drug abuse and addiction.

Criminology is the study of crime, its control and its consequences. It combines the study of politics, law, psychology, society and culture to understand processes of criminalisation, practices of crime control and prevention.

You'll study patterns and perceptions of crime, both nationally and globally, the impact of different practices of punishment on offenders, issues of diversity and discrimination in criminal justice, and police power and culture. You can also explore youth justice, new technologies of risk management, crime prevention, terrorism and security.

This course is an ideal preparation for a career in public health nutrition and the food industry. You'll have the opportunity to study abroad and gain a career head start through a year's industrial placement.

This course examines food science, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, immunology and microbiology. You'll study contemporary topics in nutrition such as genetic modification, fortification and supplementation and nutraceuticals. You'll also look at nutrition's links to health and disease, in both developed and developing countries.

Through an independent project, you'll be able to research a subject of interest (such as public health and clinical nutrition, food science and the role of specific compounds in food).

This course explores the way societies understand crime and deviance and how they seek to secure social order, social justice and social control. Across the course, you'll consider how cultural and social values, life experiences and social inequalities are shaped by the social and global environments. You'll consider how practices and attitudes of policing respond to social events and shifts in cultural attitudes and consider the ways the media can influence individuals' perceptions of crime and its causes.

You'll also study the criminal justice system in England and Wales, explore issues of discrimination in the criminal justice system and how social structures and institutions can disadvantage and marginalise groups in society. And you'll draw global comparisons, considering the ways in which protests, and political action, criminal activity, and policing, transcend national borders.

The course also offers opportunities for you to gain valuable work experience with victim support agencies, advocacy groups, justice campaigns, international charities and NGOs via a work placement module.

This course will provide a broad understanding of disease processes and their diagnosis, linked to in-depth studies of haematology or medical microbiology, together with some detailed exploration of management practices. The programme is designed to link academic knowledge with the practical applications of biomedical science and management, and will prepare you for a career in biomedical science management or small business development. Taught by researchers, expert practising biomedical scientists and business managers, there is the opportunity to undertake a project with internationally-acclaimed research teams. Cyber security, the umbrella term for computer, network and information security is of increasing importance – new legislation, technologies, vulnerabilities and threats necessitate frequent system updates.

This course offers a critical awareness of current developments and future trends in cryptography, network security and mobile/wireless security. You will explore techniques and technologies to combat threats such as malware, social engineering, data leakage or zero-day attacks, based on understanding secure authentication mechanisms, access control, intrusion detection, information security policies and user education. A project/dissertation will enable you to study an area of interest in depth. It can be an excellent selling point.

The aim of the User Experience Design MSc course is to equip you with the behavioural theory, design practice and technology know-how that is necessary for a career as interaction designer, usability engineer, user researcher, or head of user experience. It focuses upon the analysis, design, prototyping and evaluation of multimedia, multi-modal, and multi-platform user interfaces that are easy to use and support a great user experience.

Each taught module guides students through a UX project – to optimise an interaction, to innovate a digital lifestyle, to create a persuasive product, and to collaborate on the development of virtual reality. Each project provides opportunities to analyse, design, prototype and evaluate cutting-edge technologies, follow industry trends and apply contemporary theories. A final "capstone" project completes the student's portfolio.
