Develop your own approach to the study and practice of graphic design through a combination of brief-led and self-initiated projects.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Explore a wide spectrum of disciplines including design for print, illustration, photography, typography, animation and moving image

• Have the opportunity to show off your projects to the public and impress industry by exhibiting your work at the end of your final year

Our students have worked alongside practitioners and on live briefs from organisations such as Harvey Nichols, the BBC, Leeds Art Gallery and the NHS.

This vocational course will enable you to develop your own creative screenwriting practice and an extensive portfolio of work in preparation for a career as a screenwriter.

You will be based in the Northern Film School and will work alongside production courses and be taught via lectures, seminars, tutorials, talks, discussions and screenings. You will be supported as you work on self-directed projects and writing exercises. You will be encouraged to explore your own creative potential and test your ideas across a range of platforms including film and television, and you will develop an understanding and appreciation of the impact of new technologies on the industry.

You will be introduced to a wide range of ideas from industry which will inform and inspire your development as a writer as you gain a thorough grounding in key concepts and concerns of screenwriting for a range of screen media. This course will emphasise the creation of new ideas through provocation, stimulation and inspiration. You will be paired with a mentor for your final project which will replicate professional practice by encouraging you to develop a script in response to a client's needs.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Explore social psychological approaches that extend Western scientific thought
• Reconsider ideas of consciousness, mind, self and social living from a range of alternative cultural frameworks including psychoanalysis, discursive psychology and non-Western belief systems such as Buddhism and Daoism
• Gain insights into how the environment, spirituality, language and relationships shape who we are and what we become
• Develop a critical philosophy of what it means to be human

You can get involved in plenty of volunteering opportunities in several areas including mental health and disability support. We also have strong ties with local charitable and community organisations, helping you to understand issues such as domestic abuse as well as child and adolescent psychotherapy.

You’ll gain unique perspectives by looking into the important works of Sigmund Freud and Karl Marx and discuss theories gleaned from film and literature works. You’ll challenge contemporary thought on psychology, spiritualism, religion and culture, bridging the gap between the self and society.

Develop the entrepreneurial flair to kick-start, manage and grow your own business or help an existing enterprise to expand.

If you take a paid work placement in your third year, you’ll develop and enhance your employability skills.

As well as having the option to gain experience on a placement, you’ll take part in workshops and work on a consultancy project within a start-up business.

Our guest lecture series will help give you access to the enterprise expertise present in Leeds, the northern powerhouse of the region's businesses and economy. Past speakers include the CEO of the London Stock Exchange, the Chief Executive of the British Bankers Association and the Chief Economist of Yorkshire Bank.

• Examine core business principles including finance, communications, entrepreneurship and human resource management

Leeds Law School has a dedicated building at the heart of our City Campus, with its own bespoke courtroom, giving you the opportunity to witness mock trials and mooting competitions.

You’ll undertake placements in a wide variety of settings and work with individual young people, as well as with groups and the wider community. This includes young offenders, drug services, environmental agencies and outdoor education centres.

Your qualification is validated by the National Youth Agency (NYA) and recognised by the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC). These bodies endorse professional qualifications for youth and community workers.
