This course has been developed with local and national employers in the creative industries. You’ll benefit from the hands-on experience of staff who actively pursue research in this area, many of whom divide their time between academic work and commercial sector activities. You’ll have access to professional, industry-standard facilities. Our hardware and software systems are updated each year ensuring you use the same software as you will find in industry.

Throughout the course, you’ll practise presenting your work in front of a panel of tutors and industry professionals. Your final year project will be displayed at a tradeshow event where you can make contact with future employers. Previous students have found work with Disney Interactive Studios, Sky TV and many digital agencies.

Course structure
You’ll study a balance of history and media modules in your first year, helping you develop a strong skillset and knowledge of methodologies in each discipline. Things like source analysis and media interpretation.

In your second year, you’ll bring your skillset together by completing your first interdisciplinary module. You’ll also begin driving your studies in the direction you want through a wide range of module options.

Your third year culminates in the completion of your dissertation, which explores and celebrates the interconnections between history and media. Employability is embedded throughout your course.

Our students have worked alongside practitioners and on live briefs from organisations such as Harvey Nichols, the BBC, Leeds Art Gallery and the NHS.

With a focus on sound design for film and television, this course will allow you to explore the capture of on-location production sound and studio-based post-production activity.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Create soundtracks for live action film and animation for a variety of platforms and contexts
• Engage with film and sound studies theory
• Develop technical and practical skills in the area of composition and post-production
• Collaborate and negotiate with fellow music students as well as with peers in the wider school including film, dance and performance
• Have the opportunity to apply your skills and knowledge to sound production for radio and podcasting

As part of this course you’ll:

• Understand the policy-making process and how it impacts everyday lives
• Look at why social problems persist, and explore what more can be done to address them
• Have the opportunity to explore the welfare state, the impact of globalisation, social inequalities, the complexities of making successful policies, and social and economic justice

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Develop the range of skills you’ll need to be able to undertake construction management positions
• Study the legal, financial and economic environments in which the industry operates
• Understand the other professions involved in building
• Gain an overview of the whole construction process, including surveying, quantity surveying and architectural technology
• Learn to use commercial awareness and professional managerial knowledge in managing contracts within specified quality, cost and schedule boundaries
• Understand responsibilities associated with managing site operations, including those concerning the commissioners of a development, direct employees, subcontractors, the public and agents of regulatory and other authorities

Locally, nationally and globally, young people and communities are having to deal with difficult and challenging situations. Learn the skills you need to help them, and yourself, rise to those challenges.

You’ll undertake placements in a wide variety of settings and work with individual young people, as well as with groups and the wider community. This includes young offenders, drug services, environmental agencies and outdoor education centres.

Your qualification is validated by the National Youth Agency (NYA) and recognised by the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC). These bodies endorse professional qualifications for youth and community workers.
