You are free to choose placement opportunities from a wide range of roles both in the UK and abroad. Students choosing this option are supported by a dedicated placement team who provide links to employers through presentations, events, and fairs, and provide a specialist program of guidance on recruitment procedures including CV and interview preparation, as well as work readiness and working overseas.

Our BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical Chemistry degree not only offers a firm grounding in general chemistry, research methods and laboratory techniques, but also provides the specialist skills and understanding you’ll need to pursue a future in pharmaceutical chemistry. We’ve developed the course with the pharmaceutical industry in mind – ensuring that our curriculum covers all the skills and strengths that employers demand, and that our placements offer the practical experience on which you can build a career.

You’ll focus on areas like drug testing, drug efficacy, computer-based drug design and the quality control of pharmaceuticals – equipping you for a role in the drug discovery industry.

Our pharmaceutical chemistry degree also provides the option of spending an extra year expanding your horizons, working on a placement in industry. This is subject to national and international travel restrictions.

Placement options

The four-year placement route gives you the opportunity of spending your third year on an industrial placement. The Department offers help with finding a suitable placement and experience has shown that placements can lead to improved performance in the final year and improved employment prospects after graduation.

Mastering the science of blood – exploring its characteristics and disorders, and understanding how it’s transfused – impacts far beyond the laboratory.

We’ve designed our MSc Haematology and Transfusion Science course to enable you to develop an advanced theoretical understanding and the practical techniques you’ll need to apply those theories in a research or clinical context.

You’ll start by developing a well-rounded understanding of biomedical topics, learning about analytical techniques and human disorders. You’ll then look at a range of specialist units – offering an in-depth look at everything from blood cells and diseases of the blood, to blood groups, transfusion methods and immunological aspects of blood. From there, you'll be ready to tackle the issues that fascinate you, with an independent masters research project.

The Master of Landscape Architecture is a professional qualification, accredited by the Landscape Institute, which provides a route to an internationally recognised qualification in a fast growing, global profession.

The MLA combines an emphasis on individual practice and an exploratory, experimental approach, with a strong professional underpinning. It is both a conversion course for graduates of related subject areas and a final postgraduate year of education for landscape graduates.

SODA Placement Year
As part of your studies with SODA, you will have the chance to take a year working on placement within the industry. During your year, you will spend at least 36 weeks working within an organisation in the industry, developing workplace skills, practical understanding and genuine industry experience.

This industry-accredited master's offers you the chance to explore the latest thinking and techniques in this rapidly changing field.

You'll look at both traditional and digital marketing principles and strategies, as you develop an in-depth understanding of the marketing role in organisations of all shapes and sizes.

You’ll also examine the issues and opportunities in marketing, strategy and consumer behaviour.

Optional internship year

If you choose to take the optional one-year internship, you’ll do so once you have successfully completed your taught units. The internship takes place over 36-48 weeks – you will be supported by our Placement Office, who have extensive contacts within the industry and over 25 years’ experience of helping students to find placements..

The Placement Office advertise a variety of opportunities, support and advise on the application and recruitment process and continue to support you whilst you are away from the University.

Throughout our Education course, you’ll explore these and other questions from a range of disciplinary perspectives. From media, youth and play to disability, citizenship and development you’ll consider issues such as the way education differs across national and international contexts.

We want to make your experience as interactive and collaborative as possible. The course is designed to introduce you to a range of current debates and contemporary issues in education, combined with practical experience.

As you progress through the degree, you will have the option to explore your personal journey within education, tailoring your study to your career intentions. You may opt for units focusing on issues such as global agendas in education, or volunteer in a nursery to understand child development. This course also offers the chance to explore areas of Secondary Education opening-up new, exciting, career opportunities.

You will be encouraged to take a critical perspective throughout, and you will balance academic skills with practical experience.

You’ll learn through a mix of lectures, projects and placements, tutorials, presentations and discussions. Some of the ways you might learn include group work with your peers, debating topical issues in education and delivering group presentations. This is to help you develop the confidence to present to an audience, whether you’re speaking to a classroom of eight-year-olds, your friends or educational professionals.

With this four-year integrated masters course, you’ll go on a journey from fundamental engineering principles all the way through to live, practical projects that are informed by our active research and industrial partnerships. Cultural shifts are also affecting the industry, with brands having to re-evaluate their cultural purpose, identity and the way in which they communicate to the consumer to ensure greater transparency and authenticity.

This program is aimed at students who want to gain experience of both the strategic and creative aspects of fashion marketing. Whilst studying on MSc International Fashion Marketing, students will produce innovative marketing campaigns for fashion brands through a variety of different communications media, while supporting their strategic and creative process with fundamental theoretical knowledge. Designed for anyone with a passion for computer-generated content, our BSc (Hons) Computer Animation and Visual Effects degree will help you learn and hone the skills needed to launch a career in an incredibly exciting industry.

We take a learning by doing approach on this course. So, as well as expert guidance and support, you’ll have access to a fully equipped computer animation suite, with dedicated green screen room, lighting rigs and motion capture equipment. In other words, you’ll have everything you need to learn how to create your own assets for integration with virtual environments and live-action footage to produce complex visual effects.

You’ll learn about creating, rigging and animating 3D models, developing advanced particle effects such as fire, smoke and moving liquids, and about compositing and integration methods. And most importantly, at all stages you’ll have the creative freedom to develop your own ideas and concepts right through to the finished article.
