The MChem (Hons) Chemistry is an integrated four-year undergraduate masters degree that covers study areas like reactions and mechanisms, materials chemistry, drug discovery, computational chemistry and spectroscopy, chemical synthesis and physiochemical processes.

Designed for anyone with a passion for computer-generated content, our BSc (Hons) Computer Animation and Visual Effects degree will help you learn and hone the skills needed to launch a career in an incredibly exciting industry.

We take a learning by doing approach on this course. So, as well as expert guidance and support, you’ll have access to a fully equipped computer animation suite, with dedicated green screen room, lighting rigs and motion capture equipment. In other words, you’ll have everything you need to learn how to create your own assets for integration with virtual environments and live-action footage to produce complex visual effects.

You’ll learn about creating, rigging and animating 3D models, developing advanced particle effects such as fire, smoke and moving liquids, and about compositing and integration methods. And most importantly, at all stages you’ll have the creative freedom to develop your own ideas and concepts right through to the finished article.

Teamwork is at the heart of this industry and you’ll have plenty of opportunity for team-based study to help prepare you for the world of work. You’ll be perfectly poised to enter this rapidly expanding and exciting digital sector.

By joining the BSc (Hons) Fashion Business and Management, you will take a journey that will put you at the forefront of current thinking within the fashion industry and prepare you to excel as a graduate and a future leader. Successful companies are putting their customer at the heart of the brand. Marketing, buying, merchandising, data insight, digital channels and in store have to work together to design a service to bring about a total customer experience.  This requires fashion graduates with the vision, entreprenuerial thinking, business management and marketing skillsets to be successful within this vibrant industry.

By completing the program students will also be awarded the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Diploma in Management and Leadership, a business standard, valued by employers in the UK and Internationally.

Placement options
At Manchester Fashion Institute, employability is at the heart of our teaching. All of our undergraduate courses offer an optional sandwich year route that gives you the opportunity to apply for an industry placement between your second and final year. If you choose this route, you will commit to working full-time in the fashion industry for the entirety of your third year, before returning to complete your degree in your fourth year.

A placement year is an incredibly valuable element of your course as it allows you to apply your university-based knowledge, skills and understanding to your job role. During your placement, you will make your own industry contacts and enhance your CV by gaining real-world industry experience. Currently, 40% of our student cohort take part in a one-year full-time industry placement.

We have a dedicated placement team with over three decades of experience sourcing and securing outstanding placement opportunities. They will provide you with extensive support and advice prior to and during your industry placement.

Placement opportunities are available both in the UK and internationally, with students previously working in countries such as Austria, Germany, Norway, Hong Kong SAR, Sri Lanka and the USA.

Designed for registered and qualified physiotherapists, this course gives you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and professional practice across a range of practical and theory-based units.

You'll complete core units of study and choose optional units that are intended to complement different areas of physiotherapy practice, such as musculoskeletal, neurology or a first contact practitioner role.

Practical sessions are an important part of this course and, depending on the units you choose, you’ll learn techniques such as soft tissue manipulation and manual therapy techniques.

Most study will take place on-campus. However, for example, when studying the sports units, you may study at the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance (MIHP). Our lecturers are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and many still work in practice alongside teaching. Our teaching team also includes researchers with expertise across a range of specialisms, including knee and spinal dysfunctions, shoulder management, musculoskeletal and physical activity interventions, rehabilitation for older people and stroke rehabilitation.

An international relations degree will help you to gain appreciation of how states, international organizations, and non-state actors interact on the global stage. This course is about using theories and models to best explain and understand power in the world, why the world is the way it is, and how we can change it. This takes place at all levels, from individuals to whole global systems, and understanding this allows us to question what we think we know, what we think matters, and how we can develop a better world. Supported by knowledgeable and passionate staff, you’ll start by looking at the core critical and emancipatory theories of International Relations and their underlying methods.

You’ll get a broad grounding in the key issues of today’s world and the contested historical development of world politics; studying topics informed by staff research such as terrorism, security studies, human rights, cultural politics, and many others.

A wide variety of options means that you can pursue your own interests – with things becoming increasingly flexible as you progress through the course, and in your final year, you will engage more directly with current academic debates and contemporary political developments.

We place a heavy emphasis on employability and offer valuable practical skills training, including advanced analytical approaches, which many employers look for when offering placement opportunities. This, alongside the possible opportunity to study abroad – with all the experience that it brings – means that an International Relations degree opens doors to a range of interesting and rewarding career possibilities.

You can also combine international relations with another subject and broaden your outlook still further, and in your third year, you may have the opportunity to take a placement year with an employer or study abroad, broadening your horizons and boosting your employability.

Study geography at Manchester Met and you’ll begin with a good grounding in earth surface processes and landform development alongside society, culture, place and space. With a wide range of options in the later years of your geography degree, you can explore the issues and areas that interest you most.

While we have excellent teaching facilities on campus, we know that some of the most powerful lessons are learned outside the classroom. So, you’ll have ample opportunity to get involved in fieldwork trips around the UK and overseas, helping you develop and refine your practical skills. And, if you take the four-year route, you can spend a year either working on a placement or studying overseas before returning for your final year.

Along the way, you’ll explore key theories and concepts – and how they apply to geographical phenomena – while developing practical skills and techniques through field and laboratory work.

Placement options

• All of our geography degrees have been designed to be flexible. You can opt for the four-year placement degree route and spend Year 3 on a professional placement with a degree-related organisation.
• Alternatively, if you opt for the four-year study overseas route, you will spend your third year in Europe, North America or Australia.

In the changing world of contemporary filmmaking, there is an increasing range of possibilities for future storytelling across different media and platforms. The School of Digital Art's (SODA) MA Filmmaking course explores filmmaking within a wide range of professional contexts. This includes a distinctive focus on short form filmmaking, spanning narrative, documentary, artistic and technological practices across a range of platforms.

You will be encouraged to develop an authorial voice using a wide range of creative, conceptual and technological approaches to communicate your ideas and observations. Working with established techniques and experimental and disruptive production processes, you will have the opportunity to develop specialist skills whilst exploring a range of interdisciplinary and collaborative working methods within the SODA.  

As a Filmmaking student you will be based within a cutting-edge, purpose-built building, equipped with the latest emerging technologies to enable you to develop industry-standard skills for creating and researching content across the latest digital platforms. It’s a place that will offer the opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic creative community of sound designers, photographers, games developers and more. SODA is also home to staff from a wide range of creative disciplines, who are research active and experts in their chosen areas and who have well-established links to the wider creative media, arts and digital tech industries.

During the course you will also develop professional links with the creative community and industries both locally, nationally and internationally. BA Criminology and Sociology offers the exciting opportunity to combine the study of two cutting-edge disciplines in the vibrant city of Manchester.

The course is aimed at students who are interested in both disciplines and want to study crime and its causes, patterns, consequences and responses by situating them in the wider context of society.

The first year introduces students to the building blocks of criminology and sociology: key sociological and criminological theories, social divisions and problems, the criminal justice system, crime policy and practice, and key social transformations such as digital culture. Students will receive training in a wide range of research methods during the first two years, to become equipped to undertake their own independent research project in the final year.

The MArch is a lively student-centered environment, where peer-to-peer learning, practice-based research and live events projects connect students, expert academics, design professionals and wider communities. During the MArch, you will develop, expand and refine your design and theoretical skills whilst creating a portfolio that will enable you to find employment in a leading architecture practice.
