Our games design course is designed to give you a skill set that’s resilient to the rapid changes in an expanding and evolving industry. You’ll gain hands-on experience that will help you build your portfolio and develop your experience in a wide range of design skills that will open up career opportunities in a broad range of creative industries.

The games industry is  complex and diverse industry that spans a variety of old and new technologies fm print to computer software to 3D printed game pieces. Our BA/BSc in games design gives you the transferable skills and knowledge you need to become a successful games designer in this industry. Led by academic staff experienced in AAA, indie, tabletop and mobile gaming, you'll develop your technology and story development skills, as well as enhancing your game-play design expertise.

Depending on your interests, you will work on the technical side of games design and testing in the BSc, while the BA is focused on experience design and using scripting and games engines to produce satisfying gameplay experiences.

Build your hands-on games design skills

• We’ve got state-of-the-art facilities that give you access to over 30 workstations that are equipped with the latest software. Learning the essential skills you need to start your game design career, you’ll get to grips with the latest software, including Unity, Processing, OpenFrameworks, Maya,Z-Brush, After Effects, Flash, Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. You’ll also develop your skills with our Vicon Motion Capture and Green screen facility.
• You’ll get plenty of hands-on experience collaborating with students from our 3D animation, art and design, computing and graphics departments as part of our coordinated workshops. Developing your career ambitions, you'll have a range of industry work placements in gaming companies.
• You’ll develop your employability skills and industry connections with a range of work placements and internship opportunities. Our links with industry partners also give you access to live briefs, guest lecturers, and potential employers.

Studying BSc Medical Biochemistry with us will introduce you to new ideas and products that are applied to some of the biggest health problems of today. You’ll study the subject with a focus on human biology and medicine. Core themes will include chemistry, immunology, and molecular biology. There are two honour degree programmes to choose from - one is a three-year Bachelor of Science (BSc), and the other is a four-year Master of Science (MSci).

We’ll teach you how to think like a biochemist. You’ll develop essential research, diagnostic, and laboratory skills. The wide range of academic and professional skills gained on this course will prepare you for different career paths within the field. You can choose from working within a hospital or private labs in the health sector, research institutions, and pharmaceutical and biotech industries. You’ll have the chance to pursue your interests with optional modules and individual assignments.

You’ll study in some of the UK’s best laboratories, equipped with cutting-edge technology. Our £36 million Hatchcroft Building houses the bioscience suite, the cell and tissue culture lab, the mass spectrometry and medical engineering labs, to name just a few. You’ll have access to all the latest equipment you need to develop your skills and launch a career. Access to the labs is dependent upon any restrictions resultant from the ongoing Covid 19 outbreak.

How you’ll practise your skills
Our course is unique among other medical biochemistry degrees because we focus on getting you work experience throughout your time with us. You’ll have the option of taking a year-long industry placement that’ll help you develop your transferable skills. We also have a work experience module that’ll allow you to increase your chances of employment and practice working in the scientific field. Workplace learning is under the control of our employer partners who may need to restrict access to placement learning in light of the ongoing Covid 19 outbreak.

You’ll learn through a series of computer-based sessions, practically focused learnings, and workshops. This mixed learning style will ensure you’re practising your skills in hypothesis formation, data collection, analysis, and interpretation as you learn. In addition, you’ll get the chance to become a member of the Middlesex Biochemical Society and gain experience as part of different research groups.

During your BA in politics, you’ll study the key themes, concepts and theories related to international politics, and gain a solid understanding of contemporary international and global issues, political processes and systems through policy analysis, role playing, masterclasses and interactive debates. Cardiac physiologists in hospitals deal with patients first-hand, meaning they need not only highly specialised knowledge and excellent analytical abilities but good people skills.

Our biomedical and biological science courses have a burgeoning international reputation, due to our world-class research in areas including biomarkers, public health and biomodelling. The university is home to the Centre for Investigative and Diagnostic Oncology, which has pioneered techniques for cancer diagnosis and treatment, including our breakthrough in the development of a vaccine for bladder cancer.

Develop your understanding of criminal behaviour
During the course, when possible, you’ll learn in our award-winning Hatchcroft Building which includes the state-of-the-art facilities you would expect, including psycho-physiology, observation, and virtual reality laboratories. Even in eventualities where we are unable to be in the laboratory or classroom together, we aim to use virtual tools to help you develop key practical skills.

You’ll build up a range of skills by examining theoretical and scientific approaches to criminology, human behaviour, and psychology. You’ll also gain understanding of the psychological issues associated with criminal behaviour and the treatment of people who have committed criminal offences.

During your degree, you’ll take part in work placements with forensic psychologists, police forces, prisons and hospitals so you can build up a portfolio of professional experience. You can expect to engage in activities like running anger management courses for prisoners, while you also perform clinical research in areas such as eating disorders and autism, among others.

 BSc Games Design

The BSc Games Design focuses on the technical side of games programming design and testing.

On this hands on course, you'll be making games with a mix of digital and paper prototyping and planning from week one. You’ll gain hands-on experience that will help you build your portfolio that will set you up for a successful career in a range of creative industries.

The Foundation Year in Economics is taught by the same lecturing staff who teach on our degree courses and you are taught in small group seminars, workshops and lectures. You will be able to develop transferable skills in business, communication and problem-solving.

BSc Economics

You’ll develop your advanced theoretical knowledge as well as a practical understanding of all aspects of accounting and finance. Covering key areas within financial and management accounting, taxation and business law, you’ll gain a deep understanding of the role accounting plays in successful organisations.

Entrepreneurs and small businesses start-ups are often thought of as the backbone of economies worldwide, while qualities such as innovation and creativity are becoming increasingly sought after by organisations that need employees who can respond to change in dynamic business environments.

In a world that now comprises a very real and thriving 'enterprise culture', this course takes you through the entire process of concept, development and execution of starting a business.
