A shortage of mental health nurses in the UK means many of our recent graduates with nursing qualifications were able to secure graduate employment or go onto further study (DLHE 2017).

Nursing education in the mental health field will build on your passion for helping others. You’ll develop a holistic approach to assessing, treating, care planning and supporting people to recover and live the best lives possible. With plenty of hands-on experience throughout your nursing study, you’ll also gain the observation and communication skills to confidently collaborate with service users, families, carers and colleagues. In fact, many of our students secure their first job with a placement host.

Once you’ve completed your course, you’ll be able to get professional status as a registered mental health nurse and gain registration with the NMC.

How you'll apply your mental health nursing skills

• You’ll spend 50% of your course building your practical experience through a variety of unique clinical placement opportunities with our NHS partners across London. These include the prestigious Barts Health NHS Trust , Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, and many more.
• We’ve got state-of-the-art nursing skills labs, professional training equipment and a building set up to deliver high-fidelity simulations in areas such as resuscitation and dealing with the seriously ill.
• You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to projects at our research centres, including our Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (DARC), our Research Centre for Transcultural Studies and our Centre for Coproduction.
• The unique skillset you’ll develop will open up opportunities within mental health nursing, teaching, research, educational outreach, public health, the voluntary sector and the armed forces.

With the flexibility to study over three years (full-time), four years (with a paid, year-long work placement, subject to any restrictions that may apply in light of the ongoing Covid 19 outbreak), or six years (part-time), you’ll also get plenty of unique work placement opportunities that will let you put your newfound skills into practice and build your professional experience.

• Our London location gives you access to unique leading companies, experts and industry links placements. You’ll have access to the latest research and analytical laboratory facilities (on campus, through pre-recorded demonstrations based in our labs and virtual labs), along with the support to develop the essential skills, techniques and confidence to take your skills from the campus to real, working projects.
• We’ll also give you the help and support you need to develop your exit portfolio, CV and career entry plan to prepare you for a successful career in a wide range of areas within biochemistry.

The Foundation Year in Accounting and Finance is offered as an entry route to a business degree for those who don't yet meet the entry requirements for degree-level study.

BSc Honours Business Accounting

Our flexible three-year and four-year study options give you the chance to develop your professional and practical skills through work experience in the industry. You’ll have the opportunity to take two 18-week summer placements as part of a three-year degree, or a 36-week paid work placement in your third year as part of a four-year approach.

After your first year, you’ll have the option to switch to our accounting course if you decide that a career as a qualified accountant is a better fit for you, though this is dependent on the standard of your academic results.

Our information systems degree gives you the skills, experience and expertise you need to succeed in the computer-based sector – and beyond.

You’ll get to grips with the specialist equipment, systems and technologies that will give you the experience, expertise and confidence to apply your skills (due to Covid-19, access to the specialist software may be online rather than in on-campus labs). Our degree will prepare you for career paths that range from organisational management and systems architects to chief information officers and enterprise architects.

This is an interdisciplinary course meaning the content's structured in ways that map explicitly to modern technology, including systems design, application development, client-side programming, and much more

Build your information systems skills
You’ll have the opportunity to take a year-long, paid work experience placement as part of a four-year study path (subject to securing an organisation that is able to support such a placement during the COVID-19 pandemic). We’ll also give you industry professionals and work experience opportunities to help you further develop your professional skills and network. In the past, our students have taken part in Sky's hackathon which tested their knowledge and team-working skills.

We’re in the process of gaining BCS (British Computer Society) accreditation for our computer science degrees, which means you’ll be able to gain BCS membership once it’s awarded.

Not everyone wants to go into an established business and simply fit into the organisation. Some people want to enter a company to shake things up and innovate their product, their brand or how they operate. Other people don’t see themselves working for anyone, have an idea they want to pursue and start their own business.

On our course you can shape your studies to your career ambitions, developing yourself and your skills to innovate products and services in the modern workforce.

During the course, there's an emphasis on applying practice to theory in a business environment. This gives you the opportunity to see how businesses develop their products, manage their operations and innovate in their markets. To this end, a large part of the course is taking part in a work placement so you can apply what you know in a live environment.You will develop essential skills and knowledge in business management and will study modules designed to expand your knowledge of the behaviour of people in organisations, the financial aspects of business, and the wider business environment.

At the end of Year 2 you can take a year-long placement option before returning to complete your degree. In your final year, you will advance your skills and knowledge in business management and can also choose to study a business start-up, managing business projects, or a research project.

BA Honours Business Management (Finance)

Understanding contemporary corporate finance is the key to understanding modern business. Covering all areas of finance including investment analysis and capital management, you’ll have the tools to solve financial problems faced by business today.

This course is tailored towards ambitious students who want a management and finance degree, and you’ll learn in a live environment. Using data from the London Stock Exchange, you’ll form portfolios of listed companies and compare it against the market. You’ll identify over and under-priced companies, as well as calculating Beta, among other skills.

Cardiac physiology skills are in high demand, and our specialist healthcare course gives you the expertise, skills and practical experience to enter the field of healthcare science.

Covering everything from diagnostics and monitoring to analytical and intervention procedures, you’ll gain an expert understanding of the heart, how it functions, and how to provide treatment to patients of all ages. Our degree, accredited by the British Psychology Society (BPS), offers some of the best psychology teaching and research facilities in the UK, including both a psychophysiology and a virtual reality laboratory. Environmental health is the branch of public health concerned with how our living, working and leisure environments affect our health. It's a gripping subject to study and a fascinating field to work in. Whether you're helping improve the living conditions of society's poorest, or working with a company to improve health and safety for staff and customers, your work will have a huge, life-changing and often life-saving impact.

Middlesex University is the largest and foremost provider of environmental health education in the UK. This course is highly work-focused, with a strong emphasis on practical laboratory work and real-life case studies and you'll be able to take advantage of our close links within the industry.

The course is centred on UK law and practice, but is designed to be flexible and provide education and training that will be valuable internationally. You will have access to a range of excellent facilities include a microbiology laboratory and pestology materials. You will be able to study specialist modules areas such as food safety, and health and safety which are particularly valued by both local authorities and the private sector.

Many of our teaching staff are chartered environmental health practitioners and under their expert guidance, previous students have done research into a wide variety of areas, including listeria in food, the effects of heavy smoking, skin lightening, water pollution and the attitudes of people living in high-rise buildings towards recycling.
