BA Advertising, PR and Branding

People are creating, consuming and sharing content in new and innovative ways. If you’re passionate about working in advertising, brand management or publicity campaigns, then our course will set you up with the tools to succeed.

The course covers core topics such as brand management, campaign planning, public relations, social media marketing and digital advertising. You’ll be equipped with the creative thinking, communication, and strategy skills required for a fast-paced and ever-evolving career.

Interior architecture is distinct from the better known field of interior design, though the two are linked. Interior architecture degrees typically focus on the adaptation and remodelling of existing buildings, bringing together the practices of interior design and architecture in one. This course incorporates a diverse range of buildings across the public, private, and commercial spheres.

We’ll encourage you to develop an individual style, independent thinking, and innovative ideas. We give all our students the skills needed to address real-world situations in an imaginative and dynamic way, preparing you for the world of work.

Our course can also be taken over four years instead of three, to include a one-year professional placement within the design industry, to be taken after your second year. You'll gain substantial professional practice and you’ll receive an Advanced Diploma Professional Practice: Interior Architecture & Design at graduation.

How you’ll develop your design skills

• During your studies, you’ll have access to our interior architecture and design studios, which are specifically designed to mirror the environment of a professional design studio. We have five studios to use by individuals and groups alike. The studios have Apple iMacs with an array of design software, a library of design and architecture books, and storage for your models.
• Our students are often involved with various, public-facing projects. In 2018, our Interior Architecture students collaborated on a project with Alexandra Palace, a historic entertainment complex in north London. In 2017, our students were challenged to create a pop-up exhibition space in King’s Cross with a brief that challenged them to consider materials, public movement, and the artistic work displayed.
• Learning also happens outside the studio and classroom. Our students go on field trips in London and abroad, where you can partake in collaborative projects with students from other universities.
• Graduates from this course gain valuable and transferable skills the creative industry is looking for. Many have gone on to work in specialist design studios and consultancies, in roles like interior designer, space planner, exhibition designer, and interior architect. It also opens doors to career paths in the environment sector, education, media, retail, and entertainment.

Companies and organisations require graduates who have expert business knowledge, who can also demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills, and the professional acumen to deal with challenges in a fast-paced business environment.

Through two compulsory modules you will focus on Strategic Management and, Leadership and Management Development. You will also choose one option from: Service Encounter; Facilitating Creativity in Business; Managing Individual and Organisation Change; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; and also choose either an internship or research project.

Often known as the science of uncertainty, statistics is of vital importance in modern society where almost all sectors rely on the collection, analysis and interpretation of data. There is a great shortage of well qualified statisticians, data analysts and statistical consultants across the sector and this course has been specifically designed to meet that demand.

Applied statistics involves putting theory into practice - not only summarising and describing data, but extrapolating from it to draw conclusions about the population being studied. This is an applied, practically-orientated course that gives you advanced knowledge of statistical methods and the theory that underpins these methods. With a strong emphasis on relating theory to practice, you will develop your analytical, logical, numerical and problem-solving, skills that are in such high demand with employers.

Middlesex is one of only four institutions in the UK which has been approved as a mirror for the statistical programming language R – meaning you will have access to software used in the industry. You'll also learn how to use standard statistical software like SPSS and Minitab.

You'll have the freedom to choose the type of independent research project you do which can take the form of a theoretical dissertation, a survey or a more practical project involving a data set. If you're working, you'll have the option of basing your project at your workplace – making your studies even more relevant and beneficial for both you and your employer.

Visual communication through graphic design touches and shapes many aspects of modern life. From mobile apps and interactive posters to pop-up shows and global branding – graphic design is everywhere. Our course embraces the recent advancements, developments, and changes undergone by the creative industries. You’ll be challenged to develop your own creative voice with guidance from our staff and support from state-of the-art facilities. Project work will feature as part of your study from the first year to help you learn to communicate your ideas. You’ll do this through a series of problem-solving tasks in branding, typography, magazine design, editorial design, advertising, art direction, and plenty more. You’ll work on briefs that closely mirror the professional world, getting transferable experience from the very start.

Our sociology BA teaches you essential hands-on skills while you develop the research ability and theoretical knowledge that allows you to understand the effects of social issues on society. MA Graphic Design explores the ever-changing landscape of graphic design to build critical understanding, individual design thinking processes, practical experience and insightful design solutions. The course offers areas of specialism in typography, branding, editorial and book design, social enterprise and digital interactive experiences.

We take a problem-solving approach to graphic design to explore contemporary practice through design thinking, insight and co-design processes, prototyping ideas, and building expert collaborative networks with external partners.

We are a diverse collective, working across project areas of typography & information, brand identity & campaigns, new technology & digital experiences, design writing & insight analysis, sustainability & environmental issues, structural packaging and book design.

Based in the Grove, our £80 million Arts and Creative Industries building, and taught by some of the UK's leading practitioners from a range of disciplines, our course features world-class facilities and specialist workshops fitted with both new and traditional equipment, and these will be part of our blended learning approach available where possible. Studying BSc Mathematics with us will open a lot of career doors, whether you want to pursue the subject professionally or join an industry that’s looking for your skills. You can also add a fourth year to your studies and pursue an MMath qualification.

You’ll study a combination of traditional maths alongside modern topics like communicating maths. Lectures will introduce theory while workshop and lab study will develop your ability to apply it in practical settings.

You’ll be taught in highly interactive groups that’ll allow you to explore problems and find solutions in a supportive environment. A series called 'Engaging with Mathematics' brings in professionals to talk to students about possible careers, opportunities available, and all the wonderful ways maths can be applied outside the classroom.

Apply your theoretical knowledge

• Learning to apply your maths skills in the real world throughout your studies will prepare you for the world of work. One way you’ll do this is by joining staff in different outreach events that bring maths to the general public. In recent years these have included the award-winning SMASHFest and the Skills Show in Birmingham NEC.
• Our Problem Solving Methods and Communicating Mathematics modules engage with real-world problems that graduate mathematicians are likely to face. You’ll also get the option to take a year-long placement between the second and third years to further enhance your skills and explore professional interests.
• Previous graduates have gone on to study MSc Mathematics at Russell Group universities and pursue other specialist masters. Graduates from this course went on to work in law, accounting, finance, and as mathematicians. A mathematics degree equips you with a whole host of transferable skills that employers find desirable in today’s world of work.

Following the British Society of Echocardiography syllabus, this Cardiac Ultrasound course meets the practical, theoretical and technical demands of a specialised career in healthcare.

Taught by industry recognised experts, this course provides a solid grounding in research methodologies, experimental design and statistics — delivering all the transferable skills required for a career executing specialist cardiac ultrasound procedures. Following the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) syllabus, you will be equipped with the advanced theory and practice of cardiac ultrasound and signal processing.

With a significant leaderships and management component, the course teaches the management, legal and ethical concepts required of leadership positions. Our specialist laboratory, run by experienced practitioners, also houses a wide range of diagnostic equipment that you can access not only during classes, but also for independent study and research.

This course is designed for healthcare practitioners, including sonographers and physiologists, already working in the field of cardiac ultrasound. However, it is also suitable for graduates, who are interested in a research or an academic career, and will provide you with the knowledge and skills required for further study at doctoral level.
