Apply your theoretical knowledge

• Learning to apply your maths skills in the real world throughout your studies will prepare you for the world of work. One way you’ll do this is by joining staff in different outreach events that bring maths to the general public. In recent years these have included the award-winning SMASHFest and the Skills Show in Birmingham NEC.
• Our Problem Solving Methods and Communicating Mathematics modules engage with real-world problems that graduate mathematicians are likely to face. You’ll also get the option to take a year-long placement between the second and third years to further enhance your skills and explore professional interests.
• Previous graduates have gone on to study MSc Mathematics at Russell Group universities and pursue other specialist masters. Graduates from this course went on to work in law, accounting, finance, and as mathematicians. Accountancy is at the core of every business which means that our BA Accounting and Finance course offers you a range of opportunities in every industry, from banking to fashion and everywhere in between. You’ll develop your advanced theoretical knowledge as well as a practical understanding of all things finance. Covering key areas within financial and management accounting, taxation and business law, you’ll gain a deep understanding of the role accounting plays in successful organisations.

Build your hands-on practical accounting skills

• You’ll build your knowledge through a combination of lectures, workshops and seminars. You’ll also take part in a range of class-based discussions to further develop your skills and understanding.
• We use accounting software such as Zero, Sage and OneSource in our teaching and our state-of-the-art Financial Markets Lab will give you the hands-on experience you'll need to succeed in the profession.
• During your studies, you will have the opportunity to do a paid work placement, either as a year-long project or two shorter placements. Here you’ll get the chance to test and improve your technical skills in the real world, as well as building your soft employability skills such as communication and team work.

You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto one of our three-year degree courses in these subject areas. The number of students who progress to degree study are very high - in fact some of these students have gone on to become some of our most successful graduates.

BA Sociology with Psychology

Our BA Sociology with Psychology lets you study two social sciences that naturally complement each other. You'll get a well-rounded understanding of the major concepts and themes in both contemporary sociology and psychology – and how they relate to everyday life.

Our flexible course lets you tailor your studies to gain the skills, project experience and professional networks you need to achieve your engineering career ambitions in the field of robotics – and beyond. With the option to study our robotics course over a three-year (BEng) or four-year (MEng) period, you’ll gain the technical knowledge and project experience that will give you a competitive edge as a robotics engineer.

You’ll explore all aspects of engineering to get a broad understanding of robotics, design, electronics, mechatronics and networking solutions. Using the latest hardware and software, including LabVIEW, SolidWorks and STEP-7, you’ll also learn to develop systems that control physical motion – such as the ones you’ll find in robotic applications and industrial automation.

Build your robotics engineering skills

Studying BSc Medical Biochemistry with us will introduce you to new ideas and products that are applied to some of the biggest health problems of today. You’ll study the subject with a focus on human biology and medicine. Core themes will include chemistry, immunology, and molecular biology. There are two honour degree programmes to choose from - one is a three-year Bachelor of Science (BSc), and the other is a four-year Master of Science (MSci).

How you’ll practise your skills
Our course is unique among other medical biochemistry degrees because we focus on getting you work experience throughout your time with us. You’ll have the option of taking a year-long industry placement that’ll help you develop your transferable skills. We also have a work experience module that’ll allow you to increase your chances of employment and practice working in the scientific field. Workplace learning is under the control of our employer partners who may need to restrict access to placement learning in light of the ongoing Covid 19 outbreak.

You’ll learn through a series of computer-based sessions, practically focused learnings, and workshops. This mixed learning style will ensure you’re practising your skills in hypothesis formation, data collection, analysis, and interpretation as you learn. In addition, you’ll get the chance to become a member of the Middlesex Biochemical Society and gain experience as part of different research groups.

Often known as the science of uncertainty, statistics is of vital importance in modern society where almost all sectors rely on the collection, analysis and interpretation of data. There is a great shortage of well qualified statisticians, data analysts and statistical consultants across the sector and this course has been specifically designed to meet that demand.

Applied statistics involves putting theory into practice - not only summarising and describing data, but extrapolating from it to draw conclusions about the population being studied. This is an applied, practically-orientated course that gives you advanced knowledge of statistical methods and the theory that underpins these methods. With a strong emphasis on relating theory to practice, you will develop your analytical, logical, numerical and problem-solving, skills that are in such high demand with employers.

Physiology is a scientific discipline that’s essential to medical practice and human health.
