Develop the skills and knowledge you need to advance in Sport and Exercise Psychology. You'll learn to improve performance and wellbeing in individual and team-based sports

Sport and exercise psychologists work with athletes, either as individuals or as teams. They develop strategies that improve performance. We will prepare you with the skills and knowledge to develop better performance in individual and team-based sports.

Newcastle University is the first Russell Group University to develop an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology. We have expert academics and clinical staff from the Faculty of Medical Sciences.

You'll develop your understanding of psychology in a sport and exercise context. This includes the theory, evidence and practice. You’ll gain the knowledge and skills to become a reflective practitioner. We'll prepare you for further professional training. This is a route towards eligibility to practice as a sport and exercise psychologist.

Students will prepare for:

• Careers in sport and exercise psychology
• Higher research-related degrees (for example a PhD)

The MSc Forensic Psychology offers comprehensive professional training in forensic psychology. The programme combines expertise from academics and practitioners. We always ensure that the programme content is relevant, up to date and evidence-based.

You'll get the opportunity to develop theoretical and clinical skills. These skills will enhance your future employability and career progression. We focus on supporting you in becoming a scientist-practitioner in forensic settings. You'll gain an in-depth knowledge of:

• Offending and victim pathways
• Psychological assessments
• Rehabilitation
• Investigative and court processes
• Topical issues within forensic psychology

You'll conduct risk assessments and case formulations during practical sessions. You'll conduct structured framework research relating to forensic psychology practice. The course has two different routes:

• Forensic Psychology, MSc (Accredited)
• Forensic Psychology, MSc (Non-accredited)

This four-year Modern Languages and Linguistics BA Honours degree focuses on the study of linguistics.

You'll build on your knowledge of the culture, literature, history and society of the countries where your languages are spoken, gaining a firm foundation of how language works, its structure and its history.

You will apply your knowledge and skills to strengthen your fluency of your chosen languages. You will immerse yourself in the culture of another country while studying or working abroad, further developing your language confidence and skills.

Our professionally accredited three-year Statistics BSc Honours degree provides a firm foundation in the ideas and techniques of modern statistics.

All our mathematics and statistics degrees focus on three core areas – pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics – and you have the flexibility to tailor the combination of these to suit your interests.

On this degree, you will select mostly statistics modules in the later Stages. These include:

• Foundations of probability
• Regression and modelling
• Bayesian statistics

You can also choose optional modules linked to the research expertise of our staff and learn about the latest developments in the discipline, such as advanced hydrodynamics, quantum mechanics, and Bayesian inference.

The Film: Theory and Practice MA will give you a sophisticated understanding of films as systems of meaning and practice.

This master's in Film Theory and Practice covers four areas:

• Film theory: history and approaches, narrative and aesthetics, authorship, stardom, national cinema
• Cinema management: film festival, exhibition culture, marketing
• Filmmaking
• Screenwriting

You can specialise in areas of film theory, and/or in film practice. Film practice includes cinema management, screenwriting and filmmaking.

This master's could be suitable for you if you're interested in:

• Advancing skills developed at undergraduate-level
• Developing the skills needed to pursue a career in the creative industries
• Establishing the foundations for a PhD in film

It will challenge and engage you in developing insights into film as a crux of modern life and media.

You study a broad curriculum in your first two years, developing knowledge in different aspects of computing science, and gaining skills in problem solving, program design and implementation.

In your third year, you move onto specialist topics in game engineering, developing skills and knowledge for your future career.

Your modules focus on the design, development and implementation of software that drives computer games, and include:

Our MArch Architecture is designed to help you define the kind of architect you want to be. You can tailor your portfolio towards the practices in which you want to work or areas in which you want to demonstrate your expertise.

It is a modular MArch based on design project work. Lectures and seminars examine the theoretical, practical and material dimensions of architecture.

Through the course you'll:

• Develop an appreciation of design as a collective cultural endeavour involving the acquisition and exercise of complex knowledge and skills
• Learn to think and act critically. You'll think harder and deeper about architecture, what it can achieve and what you can do with it
• Define the kind of architect you want to be
• Tailor your portfolio towards the practices in which you want to work or areas in which you want to demonstrate expertise
• Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the architectural profession with an independent, research-led attitude towards design

This Urban Design master's prepares you to contribute towards an improvement in the quality of the built environment.

We've structured the course around three main urban projects. Each explores key contemporary issues in urban design:

• Urban regeneration
• Housing
• Public space and engagement

Theoretical and practical lectures, seminars and workshops underpin these projects. The course is primarily studio based. There is an emphasis on independent learning. You're encouraged to cultivate a studio atmosphere within your year group. You'll learn from each other's diverse disciplinary backgrounds. 

This accredited degree provides training in key and emerging topics such as cyber security, data science and bioinformatics. This ensures you graduate prepared to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

Your paid work placement in Stage 3 will provide practical experience and industry contacts benefiting your academic study and long-term career goals.

From Stage 4 you can specialise in a particular area of computer science or build your own broad based degree.

In Stage 5 you can choose master's-level modules from the MSc in Advanced Computer Science. You'll receive comprehensive research training to help develop your skills in computer and information systems.

Our chemical engineering degrees focus on developing your knowledge and practical skills on topics across the discipline, so you're equipped to embark on an exciting career as a chemical engineer.

This foundation year will help you build the base knowledge you needs to progress to any of our chemical engineering degrees.
