Newcastle University's Master of Fine Arts is a two-year full-time studio-based course. We've designed it for fine art graduates and for those with other backgrounds who wish to establish or extend their position as practitioners in the contemporary art world. It also offers a solid grounding for those hoping to progress to PhD degree study. We support practice and research in:

This MFA degree enables you to pursue professionalism and excellence in your practice. This research master's includes taught and research-based elements. You'll focus in depth on one aspect of Portuguese studies such as linguistics, culture, history and politics of Latin America, the Spanish novel and Latin American film.

Our research staff work in diverse fields. This ranges from sociocultural, historical and political studies to film and literature, linguistics and sociolinguistics.

This three-year course will equip you with real-world, problem-solving skills and an understanding of the academic theory that underpins professional accounting and finance practice.

Balancing practical application and the development of technical skills, the programme covers the core areas of financial accounting, management accounting, and finance.

With a combination of language and business studies, you'll develop your skills in one or two languages – from a choice of Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish – as well as the principles and practice of business management, following modules such as:

• Organisational behaviour
• Marketing
• Human resource management

You will study language modules to help you develop near-native fluency alongside optional modules that will give you an insight into the cultures of the languages you are studying.

You'll become a confident multilinguist, ready to embark on your career journey as a global citizen.

Year abroad

This Modern Languages degree includes a compulsory year abroad.

Students studying a European language can:

• study at one of our partner universities
• undertake a work or voluntary placement
• undertake a combination of both (ensuring they do not overlap)

You usually divide the year between the countries relating to your chosen languages, although it may be possible to spend the entire year in one country.

If you are studying three languages we encourage you to spend some time during the summer vacation in the country of your third language.

If you're studying Chinese or Japanese, you'll spend the year studying at one of our partner universities in China or Japan.

Support for year abroad

You will receive lots of help to prepare for your year abroad, including:

• briefings covering practicalities like insurance, visas and student safety
• support in finding a work placement
• a Tandem Learning Scheme, to practise conversation in your foreign language and make in-country contacts, before you travel
• a training course for language assistants

There are also events in your second year where you can meet students who have already done their year abroad, students from our partner universities in Europe, and Chinese and Japanese exchange students from our host universities in East Asia.

You'll be in contact with our Year Abroad team during your time abroad, and communicate with your personal tutor. You'll also write blog posts, reflecting on your linguistic, personal and professional development.

This three-year joint honours degree focuses on developing your skills and abilities to critically analyse both historical topics and works of literature.

You'll graduate as a confident and independent learner, with a solid grounding in two fascinating subjects, ready for your future career.

You'll study a range of topics across both subject areas, including revolution, slavery, post-war societies, and radicalism across a variety of periods, literary texts, geographies and cultures.

You’ll study in a research-led environment, alongside scholars at the forefront of their fields.

You will develop the skills and knowledge required to develop computer game software and you will gain an international perspective on advancements in computer game development.

Explore different aspects of computing science – such as games design, bioinformatics, and security – in your first two years.

You will study specialist modules in Stage 3, such as gaming simulations and computer games development.

Take modules from our MSc degree in Computer Game Engineering in Stage 4 to develop a deep understanding of game engineering.

It equips you with the knowledge and skills to apply mathematics and statistics in the business world.

You spend two-thirds of your time studying mathematics and statistics, and have the flexibility to tailor the combination of mathematics and statistics content to suit your interests.

You also spend one-third of your time studying management, with topics including:

Chemical engineers play a crucial role in many aspects of our everyday lives. This degree will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills you need to contribute to future scientific and technological breakthroughs within the diverse sector.

Practical learning and industry placements are integrated throughout the degree, giving you the opportunity to put your learning into practice, develop your professional expertise, and gain invaluable real-life experience in the sector.

You'll gain expertise across a broad range of chemical engineering topics, including thermodynamics, plant design, and process control.

BEng or MEng?
Both our BEng degree and specialist MEng degrees provide a pathway to becoming a Chartered Engineer. This is one of the most recognisable international engineering qualifications.

Our MEng degrees are a direct route to becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng). You don’t need to study any more qualifications after your degree to work towards chartered status.

Our three-year BEng degree can also lead to Chartered Engineer status. However, you’ll need to complete further study, such as an approved master’s degree.

Immerse yourself in the study of the Greek and Roman worlds on this Classical Studies and English BA Honours degree, exploring how these cultures have influenced English novels, poetry, plays and films.

You'll study the language and literature of ancient Greece and Rome and develop your knowledge of how Greek, Latin and English writers thought about and presented their worlds through their work.

You will analyse the relationships between literature written in English and Greek, and Roman literature and culture, exploring the impact of the Classical tradition on Western civilisation. You'll also have the opportunity to explore classical texts in translation or in the original language.
