Get a flying start and accelerate your progress towards being an ICAEW Chartered Accountant by putting classroom theory into commercial practice, with integrated paid work placements.

The ‘Flying Start’ degree is a collaboration between Newcastle University, PwC and ICAEW. It is the most established degree of its kind. It combines academic study and integrated paid professional work placements in PwC’s Audit practice. You'll progress towards the ICAEW Chartered Accountancy qualification, the ACA.

This will help you towards hopefully receiving a full-time graduate offer with PwC. You could be a fully qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountant just over a year after graduation - a true flying start.

Our three-year Theoretical Physics BSc Honours degree focuses on developing your knowledge so you have a thorough understanding of advanced mathematics and physics. You can choose to spend up to a year studying at a partner institution overseas. You can even take a summer placement in an overseas research laboratory.

Work placement

Get career ready with a work placement and leave as a confident professional in your field. You can apply to spend 9 to 12 months working in any organisation in the world, and receive University support from our dedicated team to secure your dream placement. Work placements take place between stages 2 and 3.

You'll gain first-hand experience of working in the sector, putting your learning into practice and developing your professional expertise.

If you choose to take a work placement, it will extend your degree by a year. A work placement is not available if you're spending a year studying abroad. Placements are subject to availability.

Professional accreditation

This degree has been accredited by the Royal Society of Biology (RSB).

Accreditation by the RSB recognises academic excellence in the biosciences that educates the research and development leaders and innovators of the future.

This four-year degree focuses on developing both your business and language skills, so you graduate ready for a fast-paced career in a global and complex business environment.

You'll gain core business skills, in human resource management, finance and strategy. Language proficiency is integral to this degree and you can choose from Chinese, French, German or Spanish.

During the third year of your degree, you'll be studying or working abroad, giving you the opportunity to improve your language skills, while also experiencing another culture.

The MSc Forensic Psychology offers comprehensive professional training in forensic psychology. The programme combines expertise from academics and practitioners. We always ensure that the programme content is relevant, up to date and evidence-based.

You'll get the opportunity to develop theoretical and clinical skills. These skills will enhance your future employability and career progression. We focus on supporting you in becoming a scientist-practitioner in forensic settings. You'll gain an in-depth knowledge of:

• Topical issues within forensic psychology

You'll conduct risk assessments and case formulations during practical sessions. You'll conduct structured framework research relating to forensic psychology practice. The course has two different routes:

• Forensic Psychology, MSc (Accredited)
• Forensic Psychology, MSc (Non-accredited)

This course is for graduates in:

• Speech and language therapy
• Clinical linguistics
• Psychology
• Related disciplines with an interest in speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders

It forms part of the 1+3 (Master's plus PhD) scheme. This under the ESRC Northern Ireland/North East (NINE) Doctoral Training Partnership.

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) recognises it as a Research Master's award. This makes it ideal preparation for a PhD under the ESRC funded 1+3 (master's plus PhD) degree scheme linguistics strand or for students with NIHR Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship (PCAF) funding.

The course will cover:

• Research methods in the discipline. They will be appropriate to your planned dissertation project and future research
• Advanced scholarship and practice. This is in areas within that discipline as well as an awareness of current research
• Design and implementation of an original investigation. This includes statistical and/or qualitative analyses and interpretation of findings
• development of communication skills for sharing findings of clinical investigation with professional audiences. This is through a conference presentation and manuscript for submission to a scientific journal

This Urban Design master's prepares you to contribute towards an improvement in the quality of the built environment.

We've structured the course around three main urban projects. Each explores key contemporary issues in urban design:

Theoretical and practical lectures, seminars and workshops underpin these projects. The course is primarily studio based. There is an emphasis on independent learning. You're encouraged to cultivate a studio atmosphere within your year group. You'll learn from each other's diverse disciplinary backgrounds. 

This master's in Chemistry provides an overview of chemistry topics as practised in modern research. You'll receive speciality training in areas of organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry.

Through this MSc Chemistry you'll achieve a high level of research competence. The research project and dissertation will provide you with training in tackling a significant research problem. You'll also develop skills to communicate the results of these research problems.

You'll get experience in relevant aspects of laboratory work. This includes COSHH and safety.

You'll gain specialist knowledge and understanding through lectures, seminars and workshops. You'll take part in taught laboratory classes. You'll perform carefully designed and tested experiments.
