Our Folk and Traditional Music degree was the first of its kind in England. The programme focuses on the traditional music and song of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. National and international artists teach as regular and guest tutors on this degree.

Performance and group playing is at the heart of this course, but you will also study the social and cultural context of traditional and folk music, and how music helps to construct identity and culture.

As you progress through the degree you will have increasing freedom to choose modules to tailor your studies, including from our contemporary and popular and classical music degrees.

After Stage 2 you can spend a year studying abroad at one of our partner institutions, making this a four-year degree. Please be aware that this is usually subject to you achieving an average of 60% or more across the first three semesters of the programme.

The Heritage, Museums and Galleries MLitt is a researched-based programme with some taught elements. The taught research methods part of the programme provides structured learning. This is ideal if you're unfamiliar with academic research or have been away from academia for a long time.

The flexible nature of the assignments makes this programme particularly suitable for sector professionals. It will suit those interested in advancing their career and knowledge through research. The assignments offer the opportunity for you to explore a variety of smaller topics or carry out in-depth research on a single topic. This research master's in Heritage, Museum and Galleries will also suit those who want to progress to doctoral study.

All our degrees focus on three core areas – pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics – and you have the flexibility to tailor the combination of these to suit your interests.

On this degree, you will select mostly mathematics modules in the later stages. These include:

This foundation year will help you build the base knowledge you need to progress to any of our civil engineering BEng degrees.

This is a full-time programme of study covering core civil engineering topics, including:

Successful completion of the foundation year leads to guaranteed progression to year 1 on one of the following courses:

• Civil Engineering BEng Honours (H200)
• Civil and Structural Engineering BEng Honours (H210)

This four-year Linguistics with Spanish degree concentrates on developing your understanding of how we communicate, and the growth of language in the brain.

You'll explore linguistics in the context of English and Spanish. You'll focus on the structure, history and social aspects of the English language and language in general. You will build a foundation of skills and knowledge to pursue many career paths.

You will study Spanish from an intermediate or advanced level depending on your previous experience. Building your fluency in Spanish alongside your study of linguistics will give you a unique perspective on the language.

In your third year, you'll immerse yourself in Spanish culture as you spend the year in a Spanish-speaking country. You'll further improve your language skills and confidence. You'll also gain a first-hand appreciation for the language in context.
