The MSc Cyber Security is designed for honours graduates in computing science, or a discipline with a significant computing component, for example:

• engineering
• systems engineering
• mathematics

You should have a good background in computer systems, including programming. We also value relevant industrial computing experience and transferable skills.

Our MChem degree follows the normal BSc curriculum, plus a further year of advanced study. The MChem programme is perfect for those pursuing a career within scientific research.

The Foundations in Clinical Psychology master's degree offers world-class tuition and pastoral support. From this, you'll gain key knowledge and understanding. It will equip you with all the skills you need to enter the world of clinical psychology and research. This MSc does not require extensive psychology experience. You may be an intercalating MBBS student.

You'll learn through:

The course provides you with a sound basis to apply for an assistant psychologist post. You'll gain academic and research skills to apply for further training. You must also have relevant work experience to explore this. This may include the following vocational training:

BSc or MEnvSci?
Some of our degrees are offered at two levels:

• Three-year Bachelor of Science (BSc)
• Four-year Master in Environmental Science (MEnvSci)

Our MEnvSci degrees include an additional year of advanced study at master’s level, where you will gain additional research and practical experience to increase your employability and have the opportunity to work alongside our world-leading experts.

This flexible degree will train you to understand the political ecosystem within and between individual countries – preparing you to succeed in any career that requires the skilled analysis of complex material and the ability to draw clear-minded, evidence-based conclusions.

Work placement

Get career ready with a work placement and leave as a confident professional in your field. You can choose to spend 12 months working in any organisation in the world, and receive University support from our dedicated team to secure your dream placement. Work placements take place between stages 2 and 3.

You'll gain first-hand experience of working in the sector, putting your learning into practice and developing your professional expertise.

Our current placement students are in roles such as:

They are working on the following projects:

• assisting with bespoke economic consultancy projects at Oxford Economics
• providing internal and external audit services to a variety of clients at PwC
• aiding innovation through research and application of solutions for clients at Deloitte

If you choose to take a work placement, it will extend your degree by a year. Placements are subject to availability.

Study abroad

Experience life in another country by choosing to study abroad as part of your degree. You’ll be encouraged to embrace fun and challenging experiences, make connections with new communities and graduate as a globally aware professional, ready for your future.

You may choose to spend a year abroad as part of your degree in one of our partner institutions.

Alternatively, you may apply to spend Stage 2 studying economics at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands for a year.

We place a particular emphasis on the scientific study of livestock and companion animals (including horses). You'll study subjects that reflect the whole life of an animal:

• Microbiology and biochemistry
• Animal health and behaviour
• Animal reproduction and nutrition

We bring your learning to life through extensive interaction with animals throughout your degree. You'll gain practical experience through regular visits to local animal centres and the University's two farms. You'll also enjoy input from professionals in the animal science industry.

Your third year group project to organise a conference on animal science equips you with marketable skills such as project management, organisation and teamworking.

You can boost your employability and professional skills with an optional placement year in industry, or a summer internship in the commercial sector.

An exciting part of your degree is your research project, where you undertake a piece of original research on a subject of your choice. This may be carried out in the lab, at one of the University's farms or at an animal centre. You also have the chance to study and learn alongside staff in the Animal Science research group, who are internationally recognised for their research.

Get a flying start and accelerate your progress towards being an ICAEW Chartered Accountant by putting classroom theory into commercial practice, with integrated paid work placements.

The ‘Flying Start’ degree is a collaboration between Newcastle University, PwC and ICAEW. It is the most established degree of its kind. It combines academic study and integrated paid professional work placements in PwC’s Audit practice. You'll progress towards the ICAEW Chartered Accountancy qualification, the ACA.

We are celebrating 20 years of our Flying Start programme alongside current students, alumni and staff. Hear their views and experiences of the programme since its inception in 2002.

Throughout your journey a team of dedicated staff from both Newcastle University and PwC will support you. They'll help you:

• Develop the business skills you need to gain a degree
• Progress towards a professional qualification
• Succeed on paid work placements

This will help you towards hopefully receiving a full-time graduate offer with PwC. You could be a fully qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountant just over a year after graduation - a true flying start.

All our degrees focus on three core areas – pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics – and you have the flexibility to tailor the combination of these to suit your interests.

On this degree, you will select modules evenly across both mathematics and statistics. These include:

• Complex variable
• Statistical inference
• Foundations of probability

You can also choose optional modules linked to the research expertise of our staff and learn about the latest developments in the discipline, such as advanced hydrodynamics, quantum mechanics, and Bayesian inference.

BSc or MMath?
We offer our degrees at two levels:

• Three-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees
• Four-year Master of Mathematics (MMath) or Master of Mathematics and Statistics (MMathStat) degrees

Our four-year degrees are more in-depth and include:

• Advanced topics and a wider choice of modules
• A specialist study, tailored to your own interests, that develops your skills in research and communication
• More technical skills, for those who wish to enhance their employability or proceed to postgraduate study

Transfer between the two levels is possible up until the middle of Stage 3.

To qualify for Stages 3 and 4 of the MMath/MMathStat degree, you must normally have obtained at least an upper-second-class average mark in Stages 2 and 3.
