As a University of Bradford chemistry student you will have choice and flexibility in your degree.

During the first two years, you will develop a sound understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry, with core content delivered across the traditional areas of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry. 

The third year will introduce you to specialist content in medicinal, materials and analytical chemistry. You will also have the opportunity to study a specific subject by choosing to a greater depth during an extended dissertation.

Optometry is a healthcare profession concerned with examination, diagnosis and treatment of the human visual system.

In our ageing population the demand for eye care is expected to increase, and optometrists are ideally placed to help meet this demand.

The programme is based on both fundamental academic sciences as well as detailed clinical and practical studies. The emphasis is very much on the optometric service to patients.

You will see patients in the University's own eye clinic, and attend local hospitals where you are instructed in the recognition and management of eye disease by senior ophthalmologists.

Our three-year programme enables you to progress towards practising as a registered optometrist - you will need to complete a year's pre-registration training after graduation in order to do this.

Medical Bioscience involves the study of a range of biological science subjects that can be combined to develop a multidisciplinary approach to understanding human health and combatting a variety of diseases.

The MSc Medical Bioscience programme at Bradford provides a platform for the study of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills associated with key subject areas, such as physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and bioinformatics, alongside advanced training in key experimental methods required in future research aimed at improving human health.

A key feature of the programme is the opportunity to study a variety of specialist subjects in a combination that allows students to develop their own particular interests in a varied and selective way to develop an advanced level of knowledge and skills required in a broad range of employment organisations involved in research, education, regulatory approval, diagnostic services as well as the commercialisation of biomedical information.

This new MSc in Occupational Science is the only programme of its kind in the UK. Occupational science is the scientific study of humans as occupational beings. Occupational scientists study the impact of culture, environment and society on health and well-being. Whilst occupational science is not occupational therapy, it is the academic discipline that informs and shapes occupational therapy practice.

This programme has been designed to meet the demands of an evolving healthcare system and to provide a deeper understanding of occupation and its application to society. Occupational therapists are increasingly working in multi-disciplinary teams, with traditional, diverse and emerging populations. The specialism of occupational therapy and the use of occupation as a framework for assessment, treatment and review of service user need has a key role in meeting current and emerging 21st Century challenges. A sound understanding of occupation and its application to phenomena, populations, communities, cultures, environments, disorders, disabilities and illness is therefore needed to support and guide the developing occupational therapy workforce.

This programme is primarily designed for students with an undergraduate qualification in occupational therapy, but is also available for humanities, public health and social policy graduates who wish to study at MSc level a specialist subject that has practical applications and relevance outside of occupational therapy.

The University of Bradford and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust have joined together to offer a Harrogate Pathway with the aim to recruit locally and therefore develop a sustainable workforce.

This pathway may be of interest to local people with commitments in the area, especially more mature applicants with dependants who may find traveling further afield difficult.

By providing all but one of the practice placements within the Trust we are offering a long term relationship to students. This is also reflected within our commitment agreement.

The pathway is advantageous to the Trust as newly registered practitioners who have followed the pathway will be familiar with the Trust policies and processes as well as having developed working relationships with existing staff.

The MA Advanced Practice in Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution is offered by the internationally recognised Department of Peace Studies and International Development, drawing on over 40 years of experience as a leading centre of peace research and education.

The programme will develop your understanding of the causes and dynamics of social conflict, with a strong focus on case-study analysis. It will allow you to develop informed judgements about when and how to engage constructively with conflict, recognising the strengths and limitations of different approaches to intervention. And you will consider critical questions surrounding and problematising efforts to build peace in different contexts, and in the light of contemporary trends, including converging environmental, economic and political developments.

Through a diverse programme of study, including a significant applied, practical element, you will develop and demonstrate knowledge and recognised competencies essential to effective, ethically-aware practice within conflict engagement and peace practice - locally, nationally or internationally.

The MEng in Chemical Engineering is shaped by the ongoing needs of industry, while focusing on the traditional disciplines of oil, gas and petrochemical production.

You’ll get the knowledge and hands-on experience you need to operate in a range of industry sectors, learning in a research-informed, multidisciplinary environment.

The course places particular emphasis on applying theoretical knowledge to practical, real world issues and controversies. You will examine current psychological-criminological debates by developing research design and analysis skills, allowing you to conduct your own research. This means you will develop expertise to match your future career goals: going onto phase 1 of becoming a forensic psychologist or working within the criminal justice system.

Therefore, the course also aims to further develop your intellectual and transferable employability skills, for example, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and problem solving.

The new MA in International Relations and Security Studies explores themes of peace and conflict studies, including:

• War, violence and security-building between and within states and regions
• Tackling WMD, conventional arms proliferation, political violence and terrorism
• Development and operation of international and regional institutions
• Past and present transnational challenges in international and regional diplomacy
• Contemporary global challenges such as environmental degradation, trafficking/crime and migration

You will develop an advanced academic and policy relevant understanding of international relations and security, along with analytical skills that are in high demand within institutional politics, NGO and lobbying organisations.
