BSc Computer Science provides a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of computer science combined with opportunities to specialise in a range of advanced areas. We constantly review our curriculum to ensure it remains at the leading edge.

Core ideas are introduced in years one and two. You will cover the principles of algorithms and programming, covering three key paradigms: imperative, functional and object-oriented.

You will also study the mathematics and statistics underpinning modern computer science; how a modern computer architecture is organised; concurrent systems and networks; and foundations of human-computer interaction, cybersecurity and theoretical and data-driven computer science.

A key component of year two is the software group project in which you work in a team to develop an application for a real-world client with help from an industrial mentor.

In your final year you will choose from a range of optional units in order to specialise in selected advanced areas of computer science. You will also undertake an individual project, co-created with a supervising member of staff, with opportunities to work with industrial and research partners.

We are accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), reflecting our position as a world leader in teaching and student experience. Our modern curriculum introduces you to the integrated structure and function of healthy animals, and the mechanisms of disease and their clinical management. Themes running throughout the course instil the importance of professional skills, animal health and welfare, and veterinary public health. For the first three years you will be primarily based at the main university campus in Clifton but you will also spend time at the clinical campus in Langford. Years four and five are taught at the Langford campus, with an extended final clinical year.

One of the broadest engineering disciplines, electrical and electronic engineering uses cutting-edge technology to address some of the major concerns of the modern world. There is growing demand for skilled graduates to work in industries such as consumer electronics, alternative energy and transport, medical engineering and communications.

This Year in Industry degree provides the opportunity to spend your third year in an industrial environment applying the knowledge gained in your first two years of study. There is no direct entry on to this course but you can transfer from MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering after year two if you reach a high academic standard and are successful at interview with industry. Places are limited and highly competitive.

Years one and two provide a strong grounding in mathematics, computing, analogue and digital electronics, communications, electromagnetics, power electronics and control. You will spend your third year on a placement in industry.

In the fourth and fifth years you will choose from a range of optional units and individual project topics, meaning you can focus on anything from electrical power systems to electronic communications.

The MSc in Engineering with Management is designed for graduates who wish to combine leading-edge knowledge in management practices and state-of-the-art practical advances to lead in the new era of engineering and technology. 

This unique, one-year masters degree in Engineering with Management combines the foundations of management for engineering and technology, with the opportunity to pursue one of four specialist pathways.

Taught in the School of Civil, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, you will join one of the UK’s top engineering schools and learn from a distinguished team of experts. Intelligent Manufacturing will be supported by staff and industry who specialise in the areas of 3D printing, Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things. Likewise, Energy for Sustainability and Infrastructure Systems draw on the University’s well established and respected research history in areas such as smart systems and renewable energy as well as its links to key influencers and decision makers in government. Engineering Modelling and Simulation has been developed from the needs of the aerospace industry for advanced multi-disciplinary modelling and optimisation techniques, and is applicable to other industrial sectors.

The future of Health is Digital. We urgently need new technologies for understanding, preventing, diagnosing, and managing illnesses that affect millions of people, such as diabetes, depression and dementia.  The Digital Health industry is expected to grow six times in size over the next 5 years, at a rate of nearly 30% a year. Driven by the risk of future pandemics and the health needs of ageing populations in countries worldwide, this growth is expected to continue for decades to come.

The demand for graduates in this area is therefore unprecedented. If you have a first degree in a Health Science, Computer Science, Life Science, Maths or Engineering subject, we want to help you develop as a leader in this area.  

Our MSc in Digital Health provides you with the necessary technological expertise and understanding of the health landscape to forge a career in this innovative and vital field. You will evaluate the safety and efficacy of new products, assessing the ethical principles that guide the development of new health technologies alongside graduates from different disciplines. You will be equipped with the necessary skills to work in these multidisciplinary health sectors.

This program, accredited by both the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM), has been designed for graduates who aspire to a career or advanced study in marketing. It will prepare you to respond to the marketing challenges posed by today's global business environment. Our pathways allow you to specialise in marketing strategy or digital marketing, or to pursue a broader marketing degree programme.

Our MSc Marketing program helps students to achieve CIM and IDM qualifications, highly sought after by employers, preparing our graduates for a successful career in marketing.

Through the CIM Accredited Degree program, our MSc Marketing graduates will receive exemptions for two of the three modules required for the Level 4 Certificate in Professional Marketing, and one exemption for the Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing.

IDM also offers a professional qualification, leading to the Certificate in DDM that recognises digital marketing skills alongside the MSc Marketing. Once registered for the relevant exam, benefits include an IDM membership that provides access to IDM content, communications, networking and events.

The first two years of this course provide a background in mathematical analysis, modelling and scientific computation and their application to engineering. These core topics underpin the advanced material that follows.

As well as gaining first-hand exposure to pioneering research, in your third year, you will have a wide choice of options from across engineering and mathematics to fit your interests.

A major focus of the course is real-world problem solving, spanning many different application areas from robotics and social media to medicine and environmental modelling. Problems come directly from our industrial collaborators or address real challenges in current research. By working on these case studies and using theory and techniques from other units, you will be able to develop your mathematical modelling, collaboration and communication skills.
