Cyberphysical systems integrate computation with physical objects and processes. Examples of cyberphysical systems are:

• 'Smart' devices in the home such as a smart meter or fridge
• Voice assistant devices
• Driverless vehicles
• Medical monitoring equipment
• Wearable devices
• Robotic assistants

Our course is designed for students with a background in computer science or a related field with analytical skills. You'll learn the principles of integrated system design and computational and cyberphysical systems methods and tools. Core modules will broaden your knowledge in key topics such as artificial intelligence, robotics and cybersecurity.

During the summer period, you will undertake an individual research project. This could be software-based or research-based. Collaboration with business, industry, and other outside bodies is encouraged.

Artificial intelligence is changing our homes, workplaces and lifestyles. Our course lets you explore this subject with optional modules in user experience design, autonomous systems, and machine learning.

You'll take part in a group project in year two which prepares you for creating the computer systems of the future. Many projects are in collaboration with industry. Previous students have worked with Capital One, Experian, IBM and UniDays. This is great for your CV and can help you make contacts ready for you to start your career. 

The industry year lets you to take what you've learned and apply it to real projects in industry. Placements may be paid and can even lead to a job offer before you've graduated.

You’ll be able to challenge educational practices and debate issues such as equality in education, learning in the digital age, and the ways in which cognition and development affect the way people learn. The degree covers perspectives from disciplines such as politics, history, sociology, philosophy and psychology.

The placement module provides an excellent opportunity to develop your understanding of educational theories in a practical setting, and will strengthen your CV. You could also have the chance to study abroad for a semester at our Malaysia campus.
