The Department of Biomedical Engineering has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and is one of the oldest such departments in the world, with expertise and excellence in teaching and research.

The BEng (Hons) Biomedical Engineering degree is accredited by the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), on behalf of the Engineering Council, for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

This joint Honours degree covers the curriculum of the BSc Honours Mathematics degree, plus the education theory and classroom experience required for recognition by the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

In four years, you’ll gain a joint Honours degree along with a professional teaching qualification and will be qualified to enter the probationary year as a teacher of mathematics in Scottish secondary schools.

Students on the BSc (Honours) in Mathematics course for the first two years can transfer to the Mathematics with Teaching course guaranteed (subject to progress requirements) for the start of 3rd year.

On our MChem Chemistry degree, you'll study both pure and applied chemistry. Pure chemistry is about unravelling the mysteries of molecular structure and reactivity. Applied chemistry uses chemical knowledge to respond to the challenges created by society.

Advanced classes include photochemistry, cage and cluster modules, environmental chemistry, polymer chemistry and molecular catalysis.

The Chemistry MChem course is for students who want complete coverage of the subject to keep their career options open. It’s possible to switch between the other MChem courses and also the following shorter BSc degrees within the first three years:

It utilises a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to improve our understanding of how societies organise their resources to meet individual and social needs and how they measure progress in these areas. 

This programme gives you the opportunity to learn more about the social and economic challenges facing Scottish society and place these in a broader international perspective. It draws on disciplines such as history, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychology, social anthropology and politics.
