Industry 4.0 (Fourth Industrial Revolution) is the confluence of cyber-physical systems that are reshaping most sectors including the maritime sector. Autonomous technology is poised to transform the sector. Crewless vessels are now under development. It's already possible to explore the most extreme oceanic environments using autonomous and robotic systems. It's time for the maritime industry to understand how autonomous systems will shape the sector and how best to exploit them.

This new programme aims to address an identified market need for a postgraduate qualification that is relevant to the maritime industry and which develops skills and knowledge in autonomy and IT technologies used in the sector.

This course is designed for graduates in naval architecture, mechanical engineering, marine engineering and related disciplines who want to gain advanced knowledge of autonomous marine technology.

The MSc Diplomacy & International Security gives graduates from a range of academic backgrounds the opportunity to gain expertise in a vital area of international engagement. Diplomacy and International Security are among the most pressing issues facing the world today. This programme is distinctive as it offers students a historical understanding of contemporary issues and enables them to develop an in depth knowledge of diplomacy. The programme examines key international security concerns and gives students the opportunity to engage with issues of vital relevance in today’s world.

This Masters programme offers a genuinely multidisciplinary experience. Drawing on the academic expertise in the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, you'll be able to select classes from History, the School of Government & Public Policy, and the Law School.

This research-led MRes in Geoenvironmental Engineering aims to provide advanced study in key issues related to geoenvironmental engineering and related topics such as geoenergy and engineering for sustainability.

The course is ideal if you are looking to further your knowledge and develop your research skills, contribute to new knowledge on geoenvironmental engineering topics.

The MRes offers a unique and bespoke experience; you can tailor your studies to suit your own research interests and career objectives. The course is largely research and project-based but there is also a taught element to it. You'll be taught by an interdisciplinary group of professionally qualified civil engineers, chemists, microbiologists and geoscientists. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has strong industrial links which contributes to the overall student experience, too. The research element provides opportunity to undertake independent research alongside leading academics delivering exciting research on geoenvironmental engineering topics, including geoenergy applications.

An MRes takes one year full-time or two years part-time to complete. While full-time study is available to UK and international students, part-time study on-campus is only available to students from the UK or EU. You can also study this course part-time through online Distance Learning, over 36 months, offering a flexible mode of study. Distance Learning is available to UK and international students.

Facilities

• The School of Government & Public Policy has a number of research centres that relate to the topics covered and the content of the course. For example, the European Policies Research Centre is a leading hub for the study of regional development policy and collection of such data in Europe, a centre that is of increasing importance in the wake of Brexit.
• Specialised policy centres focused on health and energy – such as the Centre for Energy Policy – also add to the applied policy environment at Strathclyde. The Institute for Future Cities' City Observatory, located in Strathclyde’s award-winning Technology & Innovation Centre, uses data to understand and address urban problems. This 18-month MSc course has been developed to provide high-calibre mechanical engineering graduates with an in-depth technical understanding of advanced mechanical topics. You’ll gain the specialist and generic skills necessary to contribute effectively in developing company capabilities, with practical experience provided by the industrial placement.

Industrial Placement

• You'll complete an industrial placement in the period from June to August, after you have completed the taught part of your degree, but before your final project. The Department will support you in making applications for industry internships. Please note that it's your responsibility to secure a work placement.
• You'll be fully supported by the University while on a placement. You'll be allocated a University of Strathclyde supervisor who'll act as your point of contact during your placement.
