Our students have previously undertaken study abroad opportunities in Brazil, China, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain and the USA. Typically, when students choose to study abroad, they apply in their second year for the third year of study at a partner institution. Students then return to Warwick for their final year.

On this flexible degree you will explore how we can work and live in a way that safeguards environmental, social, and economic wellbeing, both in the present and for future generations.

Global Sustainable Development (GSD) students are broad-minded, adaptable, and aspiring global citizens with social consciences.

By studying GSD, you will take a transdisciplinary approach and confront issues from a diverse range of perspectives. You will also need to think creatively and embrace new opinions from your peers across the world.

We will challenge you to become an active participant in your own learning and help you to develop professional skills throughout your degree. You can enhance your skills and studies through optional work placements, study abroad, and certificates.

This innovative course in the growing area of decision science and behavioural economics combines multidisciplinary expertise from the Department of Psychology, Department of Economics and Warwick Business School (WBS). The course emphasises both theoretical foundations and real-world application of core and advanced areas of behavioural economics, and the cognitive science of judgement and decision making. The Science Track variation of the course is designed for students with a first degree in a science-based subject, such as Psychology, Maths, Biology, etc. or a subject with a strong quantitative element, such as Business, Finance, etc.

A variation of the course is offered by the Department of Economics and is available if you have a first degree in Economics.

Skills from this degree

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

• Gain a deeper understanding of how and why people make the choices they do
• Understand how influencing such choices is important across a variety of domains, from public policy (e.g. encouraging people to save for pensions), through to industry (e.g. how to place a new product in the market), and individual behaviour (e.g. why people drink and eat too much).
• Develop a theoretical understanding of key models and results in behavioural economics and judgment and decision making
• Design, conduct and analyse behavioural experiments
• Implement models of choice
• Access and analyse large-scale datasets
• Initiate economic enquiry and test economic models
• Assess and deploy potential behavioural interventions

Warwick offers an innovative approach to Hispanic Studies, combining the study of the Spanish language alongside a diverse range of Hispanic cultures across Europe, the Caribbean and the Americas, including Hispanic history in Africa and the Pacific.

In Economics, you will study the choices of consumers, corporations, governments, networks and nations. You will also develop a deep knowledge of global and local economic trends, institutions and policies.

You will normally spend your second or third year abroad, to consolidate and enhance your learning.

Study abroad

We strongly recommend that you take a year abroad as part of your modern languages degree, if you are able to. If you are unable to take a year abroad you may move to a three-year degree. In such cases, you will be required to complete further language reinforcement work. You will also be encouraged to spend time abroad in other ways, during vacation times.

You will usually spend your year abroad doing one of three things:

• Working as a language assistant teaching English in a primary or secondary school
• Studying full-time at a partner university in your chosen country
• On a work placement

Why are ‘private troubles’ also ‘public issues’? This course enables you to explore and answer questions just like this. The course will appeal if you are interested in how social life shapes individuals’ experiences of the world around us.

From across sociology and allied social sciences, you will gain a thorough understanding of theories and methodologies. Then you will have the opportunity to tailor your programme to your own specific interests through our wide range of options.

Your period of study will involve you examining individuals’ experiences, and encounters with structures and institutions; reading new empirical research; exploring social theories; and assessing innovative methodologies.

By studying linguistics together with Japanese, you will explore the fascinating human capacity for language, while also building your fluency in Japanese. As a linguist, you will learn about the structure and function of language, and about relationships between language and society.

You will also study and practice written and oral communication in Japanese, and learn broadly about communicating across languages and cultures. Your skills in linguistic analysis will support your language learning, and your knowledge of Japanese will complement your work as a linguist. This course opens many career opportunities that require the knowledge and skills of both a modern language and a deep understanding of language, culture and communication.

(75% linguistics, 25% Japanese).

If you wish to spend a year abroad (which we thoroughly recommend), this will take place in your third year, meaning that you will complete your degree in four years instead of three. All students have the opportunity to apply for an intercalated year abroad at one of our partner universities. Choosing our BEng or MEng Engineering degree is an ideal route into Engineering if you wish to sample all our disciplines and want a sustained broad learning experience.

As with all our degrees, you will decide whether to stay on this general pathway or switch to another engineering course during your second year of study.

Delivered jointly by the School of Engineering and WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group), you will be taught by experts across the fields of automotive, biomedical, civil, electrical, electronic, manufacturing, mechanical and systems engineering.

General Engineers can see synergy across these disciplines which enables them to solve high-level problems. The Warwick course will allow you to develop sought-after skills including a multidisciplinary approach to problem solving, the ability to manage projects and communicate ideas, and the capacity to lead, research, design, innovate and develop products and systems.

Study abroad

You may choose to take an intercalated year in industry, research or study abroad between years two and three (BEng and MEng) or between years three and four (MEng only). If you choose to take an intercalated year this will be reflected in your degree title, and add a year to your degree programme.

By choosing to study Life Sciences and Global Sustainable Development (GSD) degree, you will be encountering these questions daily.

You will gain valuable lab and analytical experience whilst studying with Life Sciences. You will apply that knowledge to our current understandings of climate change, social justice, and food security. At the end of the first year, you will choose either a Biological Sciences or Ecology route, allowing you to study modules tailored to your interests and career aspirations.

Study abroad

Although it is not compulsory, we encourage you to study abroad during your degree.

Option 1: Part of your second year abroad

Spend part of your second year at Monash University, home to the Monash Sustainable Development Institute. You will learn to appreciate the different concerns and priorities for sustainable development, including different approaches to tackling global issues.

Your academic achievements abroad will count towards your degree awarded by Warwick.

Option 2: Year abroad

You may choose to apply for an intercalated year spent either studying abroad or on a work placement (subject to you meeting departmental academic requirements). This will mean extending your course to four years.

Warwick has partnerships with universities across the world. You will spend your first and second years at Warwick, studying abroad in your third year before returning for final year.

Your year abroad will not count towards your overall final mark, giving you the freedom to choose modules outside of your comfort zone.

This course will move you through the foundations of theory and practice to focus on developing creative ideas.

Having explored the breadth of the media and creative industries regionally, nationally and globally, you will then be able to follow your creative practice through lab work, collaboration and in response to industry briefs. You will be supported in your outward facing portfolio of creative work. In your second and third years, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the media and creative industries.

Within the framework of our research-led expertise on media, creativity, communication and cultural production, we offer innovative and dynamic teaching, technology and practice-led learning and assessment, with a strong focus on creativity and collaboration.

The Centre’s vibrant extracurricular culture (alongside Theatre and Performance Studies, Creative Writing, Film and Television and History of Art) means you will be surrounded by many others who share your passion for media and creativity or see themselves managing and leading creative people to pioneer new ways of communicating.
