By studying linguistics together with French, you will explore the fascinating human capacity for language, while also building your fluency in French. As a linguist, you will learn about the structure and function of language, and about relationships between language and society.

You will also study and practice written and oral communication in French, and learn broadly about communicating across languages and cultures. Study abroad

If you wish to spend a year abroad (which we thoroughly recommend), this will take place in your third year, meaning that you will complete your degree in four years instead of three. This course will introduce you to several dimensions of social inequality. You will study key topics such as social class and social stratification, work and employment, race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, health and disability. You will develop an in-depth understanding of key theoretical approaches and concepts for understanding inequality, and you will be introduced to key empirical studies in the area of social inequalities.

The main aim of this course is to provide you with a thorough training in sophisticated qualitative and quantitative research methods that can be used to understand social inequalities. You will have the opportunity to further specialise in research methods of your choice in your dissertation project.

By the end of this course, you will have solid skills in research design, data collection, data management, and data analysis, and a wide-ranging understanding of the methodological and analytical aspects in the study of social inequalities.

Education plays a variety of often contradictory roles in public debates, policy discourses, and academic research related to globalisation and international development. Education may be seen as the silver bullet, the solution to global inequalities and the vehicle for economic and social development. Alternatively, education is blamed for not delivering its promise, or even for reproducing or exacerbating the very problems it was supposed to solve. Education systems and institutions are themselves sites which are affected by patterns of globalisation and policy changes regarding development and aid.

Increasingly we are moving into a ‘post-development’ era, where it is no longer possible to separate the globe into clear-cut regions that are designated as ‘developed’ and ‘developing’: local, regional and international connections and transitions demand that we re-focus attempts to understand and theorise the role of education in contemporary society. Education policy and practice faces the imperative of adapting to enhanced mobility and immobility, changing political regimes, and the ever-shifting relationship between education and social change.

MA Global Education and International Development addresses a complex array of interconnected challenges and issues in relation to education, understood in its broadest sense. The programme brings together theoretical and conceptual challenges with applied considerations for education practitioners and development interventions. The MA includes an option to take a placement module which enhances your professional skills and employability.

Following an in-depth foundation in biochemistry, this course broadens out to allow a focus on more specialist fields. These include biophysical chemistry, which covers biological macromolecules at the atomic level, and understanding the genome and gene regulation.

Our exceptionally wide range of options allow you to pursue areas that interest you. You will graduate with a sound understanding of the biochemical and structural basis of molecular, cellular and development processes in a variety of organisms.

You will benefit from our tutorial system for academic and pastoral support, alongside high-quality laboratory time.

Our four-year MBio gives you the opportunity to undertake an extended final year in-house research project.

This flexible degree program allows you to study two or three languages and cultures to degree level. Alongside your language study, you can develop a specialism in the culture of your major language and also have the opportunity to study thematic modules across cultures. (If you wish to divide your time equally between two languages and their associated cultures, a joint honours combination may be more suitable).

You can choose one of two different routes on this degree:

• On route one (two languages), you specialise in one language and culture, while studying a second language as a minor subject.
• On route two (three languages) you focus on two major languages and cultures, while taking a third language as a minor subject. In your first year you will select a culture module from one language.

On route one you can choose your major language from: French, German, Italian or Spanish. Your second language can be selected from: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian or Spanish. 50% of your time will be devoted to language learning and the other 50% of your time will be spent studying cultural modules focused on your major language and/or selected from modules offered within the School.

On route two you can choose two languages from: French, German, Italian or Spanish. Your third language will be selected from: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian or Spanish. 75% of your degree will be devoted to language learning and the remaining 25% of your time will be spent studying cultural modules focusing on one or more of your major languages.

We offer a wide range of modules within the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and the full range is open to you on both routes of this course. You will normally spend your second or third year abroad consolidating and enhancing your learning.

Study abroad

We strongly recommend that you take a year abroad as part of your modern languages degree, if you are able to. If you are unable to take a year abroad you may move to a three-year degree. In such cases, you will be required to complete further language reinforcement work. You will also be encouraged to spend time abroad in other ways, during vacation times.

You will usually spend your year abroad doing one of three things:

• Working as a language assistant teaching English in a primary or secondary school
• Studying full-time at a partner university in your chosen country
• On a work placement

Our Automotive Engineering degrees provide the skills and knowledge you need to stand out from the crowd. As an Engineering student at Warwick, you will develop an in-depth understanding of the classical principles of Engineering by following a general engineering programme for the first four terms. You can then specialise in Automotive Engineering, combining a firm grounding in the principles of automotive engineering with experience of cutting-edge technology.

Study abroad

You may choose to take an intercalated year in industry, research or study abroad between years two and three (BEng and MEng) or between years three and four (MEng only). If you choose to take an intercalated year this will be reflected in your degree title, and add a year to your degree program.

Your first year lays the foundations, including study of either Latin or Ancient Greek, while your second and third years offer an enormous choice of modules across all three departments.

Two of your core modules – Problems in Philosophy and Literature, and Textual Studies – are taught jointly across departments, giving you the opportunity to combine these interests directly.

If you wish to expand your experience beyond your study at Warwick, we can support you to apply for an intercalated year abroad or on a work placement. This extends the duration of your degree to four years, with your third year spent abroad or on placement, and will be reflected in your degree qualification (i.e. BA Philosophy, Literature and Classics with Intercalated Year).

Designed to bring out the beauty and universality of physics, our flexible Physics course provides broad and in-depth teaching that's informed by our research.

Core modules introduce and develop the fundamental concepts, such as those of quantum theory and electromagnetism, and cover the mathematics used in physics. Optional modules provide opportunities to see how the basic concepts can explain the phenomena we observe.

For the final year project, you will work as a member of one of the research groups on a year-long project to explore aspects that are not yet fully understood. We encourage you to apply for summer placements and projects, which enable you to complete a small research project supervised by a member of the academic staff.

Our MSc will appeal to you if you have a strong background in the subject and wish to gain advanced and rigorous training in modern economics, as preparation for a career as a professional economist or analyst.

You will receive advanced teaching in the core areas of macroeconomic and microeconomic theory, econometrics and research methods, and you will also be able to choose from a wide portfolio of optional modules.

An 8,000-word dissertation provides an opportunity to explore your own interests across these fields of study. You will be automatically enrolled on a pre-sessional Mathematics and Statistics programme to equip you with the relevant methodological skills you need to succeed.

By the end of the course, you will be able to read and understand research papers and articles in academic journals, build theoretical models, and initiate empirical research and evaluate its findings.
