Psychology is the scientific study of mind, brain and behaviour. It is strongly interconnected to other disciplines such as biology, physics, medicine, neuroscience, politics, sociology and economics.

We teach psychology as a rigorous experimental biological science. Our exciting and innovative 4-year MSci course allows you to engage fully with the theories, perspectives, and methods that are used to study the mind, the brain, and behaviour, whilst developing your practical, high-level skills in empirical investigation and scientific data analysis.

It will equip you with advanced training in research methods, statistics and specialisation in one of three pathways at the forefront of contemporary behavioural science.

Our integrated Masters in Biology is a flexible and broad-based degree that covers biomedicine, biotechnology, genetics, ecology, and evolutionary biology.

This course is ideal if you are interested in an interdisciplinary approach to biology, or wish to specialise at a later stage; you will have a wide range of options to tailor the course to your developing interests.

The integrated Masters course introduces a four-year programme that specifically focuses on the skills needed for a career as a research scientist. During this time you work with researchers within one of the UK’s top bioscience departments to learn specialised techniques; you will gain experience in a research lab doing pioneering work at the forefront of their field. You also undertake specialist research training and take Masters-level modules.

Adding a year in industry or a year abroad are both an option with this course too, so you can benefit from the advantages that a year away can bring. Investigate the art, literature, history, culture and thought of the post-1945 era. Explore topics from social media to the making of the contemporary world, cultural heritage management to globalisation, from art and the environment to justice.

On this flexible course you'll study with leading experts in their field from the Departments of Archaeology, English, History, History of Art, Sociology and the Centre for Women’s Studies. We'll introduce you to the various means by which different disciplines conceptualise and analyse the period. You can construct a programme that suits your interests and develops your transferable skills in interdisciplinary research.

This course is for students from around the world who wish to pursue a career in teaching foreign languages. It will extend your knowledge of the processes that underpin and facilitate foreign language learning.

The course is designed for experienced language teachers. You should have at least 12 months' experience of full-time, classroom-based teaching (or equivalent).
The one-year programme is designed for students with at least one years teaching experience who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning of any second or foreign language/s. It is expected that students will already have an understanding of the main approaches to language teaching and language analysis. The course will provide rich opportunities for reflection on practice, and for the development of the understanding underlying principles and theories of language teaching and learning. Our BA History of Art with a year abroad will give you four distinctive and complementary years of studying the history of art and architecture.

You'll start with a year-long introduction to the history of art with an option to study a language. You'll build on these essential skills in your year abroad which you'll spend studying with one of our prestigious partner institutions in Europe, the USA and China, immersing yourself in the language, culture, art and architecture. You'll receive rounded training in the discipline and practice of art history.

During your time at York we'll introduce you to an extraordinary variety of art and architecture from many areas, including Europe and the Americas, but also covering the Middle East, North Africa, and East, South and South East Asia. You can also study an exciting range of time periods, from the late antique to the contemporary.

History of Art is a traditional humanities subject with a strong vocational element, allowing you to develop valuable transferable skills. We have partnerships with the Tate, the National Gallery, the V&A and York Museums trust. We also work on art beyond the museum and gallery system, including with partners in country houses, maritime museums and churches. These partnerships contribute to the teaching and research in our department - you'll benefit from our collaborative links with these institutions. In addition the interdisciplinary nature of art history allows you to develop your existing skills and interests and is reflected in our close relationship with other departments and centres in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
