Heritage is the legacies of past human activity. From buildings to cultural traditions, studying heritage allows us to understand how we have defined ourselves throughout history.

BA Archaeology and Heritage brings together a depth of knowledge about the human past with a practical understanding of why that knowledge is important for society today. You'll explore different interpretations of heritage and gain practical skills in communicating our past to the public. You'll delve into questions tackling the conflict around heritage and explore how we can protect it for the future.

Biomedical Sciences is about understanding human health and human disease. We study these areas so that, ultimately, we can develop new therapeutic strategies and refine government policy to prolong life and improve the quality of people’s lives.

Biomedical Sciences at York will open up your potential to become a future leading researcher, policymaker or administrator in biomedical sciences. You will learn how to distil and critique information in the face of ambiguity and complexity. You will learn how to critically assess information to gain a balanced understanding, how to develop and test scientific hypotheses and how to present your findings clearly and concisely to experts and non-experts alike. This degree will provide you with the skills required to tackle current and future challenges to human health.

The Integrated Masters course will allow you to use and further develop research and analytical skills; you will gain experience in a research lab doing pioneering work at the forefront of their field. This experience will provide you with a platform to launch a career as a research scientist.

Our course is delivered by four University departments with outstanding biomedical research activity: The Department of Biology, The Department of Health Sciences, The Department of Psychology, and the Hull York Medical School. The combined teaching across these departments ensure you have the latest understanding of the most important topics in human biology and disease, infection and immunity, epidemiology, and neuroscience.

Our course emphasises a high level of craft skill and creativity, combined with critical thought and collaboration. You'll gain scientific and technical training with hands-on experience of visual effects systems, programme creation and artistic decision-making.

On this MSc you can focus on formal research into the technologies behind postproduction systems. Alternatively you can focus on production-orientated work and apply for the MSc Film and Television Production with Visual Effects.

Many of our graduates work in the industry, from film to television companies, and some of our graduates have gone on to research in industry or academia.

Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience explores how the mind changes as children grow up, examining the environmental and biological influences on the developing brain.

You'll be provided with perspectives from developmental cognitive neuroscience and developmental and cognitive psychology, and receive hands-on training in brain imaging methods.

You'll explore topical issues such as the neural bases of perceiving, acting in the physical and social world, the development of emotion regulation and pro-social behaviour, and neuroeducation.

Understand how social, economic, political and cultural forces shape individuals. Challenge your views on topics debated in society and learn to evaluate evidence, think critically and craft arguments – attributes valued by employers.

The MA in Renaissance Literature 1500-1700 is an intensive and exciting survey of the literary culture of the 16th and 17th centuries. The transformations in religion, politics, the technologies of writing and publication, science and global exploration, which continue to resonate today, prompted some of the most vibrant, difficult, and rewarding writing ever produced.
