Founded in 1984, the Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS) at York is the home to a thriving international community where you’ll study alongside prominent academics in an array of related fields, from queer studies to feminist theory, political violence, activism, and masculinity. Gain a unique perspective on landscape archaeology as you focus on human ecology and the interactions of people with their environments. You'll examine case studies from many different periods and areas around the world to understand different approaches to the study of landscape change. You'll also investigate the varying lifeways of humans through the ages, and how people have interacted with the natural world since early prehistory.

With guidance from leading researchers and experienced academics, you'll develop your understanding of the recognition, recording, interpretation and conservation of archaeological landscapes and build key practical skills in surveying, GIS, geoarchaeology and aerial photography.

Gain a critical understanding of the process of corporate globalisation through in-depth coverage of the main topics in corporate governance and commercial law.

Throughout this course you'll explore the differences in laws and governance in countries across the globe, and how they respond to economic and social pressures. You'll assess these approaches in times of economic stability and in crisis, with a particular focus on corporate governance and on commercial transactions.

By the end of this course, you'll have developed a comprehension of how commercial decisions are made taking into account their economic and social context. You'll understand the nature of the company, company law and how corporate governance operates, leaving you well-equipped to enter the world of commercial law.

Computer Science is founded upon Maths, and the study of the two together allows you to explore topics core to both whilst gaining an insight into how they intersect.

Maths influences Computer Science, from designing and analysing efficient computer programs to developing formal proofs that a piece of software does what was intended. This is especially important, for example, if the software is being used to fly a plane.

Increasingly, Computer Science is also being used to find solutions to mathematical issues. Computers are used to solve long-standing mathematical problems, as they can help visualise complex numerical data, search for solutions, and make number manipulation faster.

We have fantastic links with industry, and this allows us to give you exposure to the latest developments in the real world, as well as in our research. You may work on projects that have been specified by companies such as IBM or BT, who will then take any solutions and could use them within their business.

Work with world-renowned physicists using sophisticated equipment to probe the nature of existence and push the boundaries of research. You will learn to utilise supercomputers like York's own Viking cluster, developing parallel code to model complex physical systems
