Students in the performance concentration areas will develop comprehensive capabilities in the major performing medium including the ability to work independently to prepare performances at the highest possible level; knowledge of applicable solo and ensemble literature; and orientation to and experience with the fundamentals of pedagogy.

The Plant and Soil Science area has a tradition of research and education in crop production, horticulture, soil management and precision agriculture technologies. We have an outstanding faculty who are developing management strategies for crop production, environmental protections, horticultural production, landscape management and maintenance, as well as preparing the future generation of land managers and agricultural professionals.

Over the past 100 years, ASU has evolved from a regional school of agricultural instruction to a comprehensive university. The College of Agriculture and Technology has also evolved throughout the years. While education is still our primary mission, we also have extensive public outreach programming and research activities.

We prepare our graduates for entry and career advancement in the food, fiber and natural resources industry, which involves production (farming), agribusiness and value added processing, public service and rural leadership; and for entry and advancement in the manufacturing and industrial technology industries.

The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program, a one-year master’s degree plan consisting of 30 semester credit hours, is designed for all engineers on management career paths as well as for those charged with managing technology in engineering, manufacturing, and other high-tech organizations. The MEM degree program will also benefit engineers pursuing licensure in states where candidates for professional licensure are required to have an additional 30 semester credit hours of coursework beyond the bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in engineering. The curriculum consists of courses offered by the A-State College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Due to the flexible scheduling of our courses, the program accommodates working professionals seeking career advancement and/or career changes as well as recent graduates desiring to move into positions with management responsibility.

Program graduates will have:

• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to identify critical issues, formulate realistic solutions, evaluate alternatives, and solve technical problems.
• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to interpret statistical or deterministic models and concepts as well as apply them to technical problems.
• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to express alternatives and solutions dealing with technical problems.
• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to function effectively as a member or leader on a technical team.

Students in art develop insight, sensitivity, and perception toward all aspects of nature while building individual expressive responses. Aesthetic and functional values, creative ideas, and media skills are developed through instructional guidance and applied experience in the studio and classroom. Some of the courses listed here may involve field trips to Memphis Brooks Museum, The Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, or other regional art collections.

The Bachelor of Arts degree provides a liberal arts-fine arts education, allowing students to pursue their interest in art history. The BA with an art history emphasis is a suitable beginning for a student planning to work toward an advanced degree in art history.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders is a preprofessional degree program which provides students with academic and practical preparation considered essential for success in the Communication Disorders graduate program.

The undergraduate curriculum offers students a broad base of preparation in general education requirements, the sciences associated with communication and its disorders, anatomy and physiology, and a number of basic methods courses associated with the identification and treatment of a variety of communication disorders.

The BS Psychology program supports the Arkansas State University mission by providing students with a challenging environment designed to foster understanding of themselves and others. The primary purpose of the program is to prepare students to take advantage of professional and personal opportunities for growth and community engagement. This purpose is met through a faculty that is committed to best practices in education, engaged in cutting-edge research, and provides students with hands on experiences in research, psychological wellness and community outreach projects.

The major in International Business permits students to prepare for managerial careers in international business. It is interdisciplinary in nature and emphasizes the development of language skills as well as an understanding of the sociocultural, political, managerial, marketing, and economic understanding of the international environment.

Health Promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. Students completing this degree program will have the skills and competencies necessary to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate effective health-related programs. Graduates often find employment in public health agencies, clinical facilities (hospitals and medical clinics), worksite wellness departments, or voluntary agencies.

The multimedia journalism program prepares working journalists and news practitioners to generate, research, write, and produce newsworthy content across the spectrum of news media. Through hands-on instruction, practical workplace experience and conceptual coursework, students learn how to create and distribute content for print, radio, television, digital, interactive, social and mobile media.

Multimedia journalism is designed to develop news judgment and storytelling skills applicable to a variety of professions and media outlets and talent for performance and teamwork. The curriculum is designed to be flexible and meet student interests.
