The Master of Arts in Communication Studies is designed for students who wish to apply advanced communication perspectives, methodologies, and competencies in their careers. Communication is key, and nobody knows that better than you. You may have come from an undergraduate program in Communication Studies or an entirely different undergraduate degree, but you know that in order to advance in today’s digital and fast-paced professional environments, it is critical for you to have an advanced degree that prepares you as an effective communicator and leader.

The study of anthropology promotes an understanding of self and other by exploring the human condition at all times and in all places. In an interconnected world in which societies depend upon one another, failures in understanding and appreciating differences in goals, values and ways of life can lead to fear, discrimination, oppression, and war. The subfields of biological anthropology, archaeology, and sociocultural anthropology explore human evolution and the emergence of culture, cultural differences and similarities, regional history and ecology, and the role of language in culture.

The Master of Arts in Education program at CSUSB prepares students expand their teaching practice or to take their place in any number of educational careers. The program prepares teachers to become leaders in transformative education, a process of change by which schooling practices effectively promote learning in a variety of educational settings. Inquiry and reflective practice are the foundations of the transformative process, a process that allows teachers to evaluate current school practices and imagine teaching and learning in new ways. It is our goal to educate teachers who in turn can assist their students and colleagues to develop to their full potential and become reflective, contributing members of local, regional and global communities. The program values lifelong independent and collaborative learning that fosters leadership for change.

The Master of Arts in Applied Archaeology at California State University, San Bernardino is a professionally-oriented program designed to prepare students for middle- and upper-level careers in the archaeological sector of the cultural resource management (CRM) industry.
 
The program provides training in anthropological archaeology with a focus on developing a solid background in archaeological method and theory combined with practical experience in field and laboratory studies. Students are then trained on how to use that background in an applied setting through courses focused on CRM regulations and practice, along with on-the-job training through an internship with a federal or state agency, a private firm, or a tribal entity that conducts archaeological investigations in the context of CRM.

Students in this degree program do not need to take courses in the General Education category A3 (Critical Thinking).

The M.A. in Education, TESOL Option is a program designed to meet the needs of English teachers in classrooms with English learners both in the United States and abroad. We offer specialization in K-12 education, adult ESL, program management, and college-level English teaching. Teaching English in California and around the world is a fast-growing profession.

The program features outstanding faculty with teaching and research interests in language and literacy development, innovative language-learning methods, and technology-enhanced instruction. A unified focus on language for communicative purposes draws together contemporary theories that focus on the language learner as a whole person. Courses in teaching methods and supervised fieldwork opportunities strengthen the knowledge of classroom techniques.

Nestled in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, CSUSB is an attractive site for higher education. The 430-acre campus features 26 buildings surrounded by panoramic views of near-by mountains.

The Master of Science in Biology is designed for students entering research-re­lated careers or planning to enter advanced graduate and professional de­gree programs. The general goal of the program is to provide students with the opportunity to sharpen their knowledge and expertise, improve their ability for self-directed study, and advance intellectual responsibility, all in preparation for professional leadership in the field of biology. The program allows students the flexibility to develop avenues of study and thesis research proposals based on their interests and goals.

The sociology major offers students a rigorous program of study to examine social phenomenon, develop theoretical and methodological proficiencies, and apply a critical understanding of complex social issues and processes. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a solid sociological foundation to analyze social structures and contribute to transforming and diversifying our social world.

We offer a Social Services and Community Research concentration to further develop students' understanding of community dynamics and strengths, and promote civic engagement through the application of analytical skills to collaborate with community organizations on projects to benefit and empower the community. The Sociology program also prepares students to pursue graduate degrees in sociology, social work, counseling, and other social sciences fields. Additionally, many of our Sociology graduates pursue careers in helping professions, education, criminal justice, law, health care, etc.
