Fifteen units chosen from philosophy courses. Elective units may include philosophy courses taken to satisfy General Education requirements. No more than 6 elective units from philosophy courses numbered 1005 – 3099. In consultation with the chair, philosophy majors are encouraged to include philosophy courses from study abroad in their elective category. Students with philosophy as a double major may complete the elective requirements for the philosophy major by taking up to nine units in non-philosophy courses that are related to the philosophy major. These customized non-philosophy elective packages need to form a coherent plan of study within the philosophy major and should be constructed in consultation with a faculty advisor; the plan of the elective package then needs to be submitted to and approved by the department chair.   

Students are encouraged to check that they have met the prerequisite requirements for each course in the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration in which they are planning to enroll. Prerequisite requirements listed for each course are strictly enforced.

Enrollment in 3000-, 4000- and 5000-level courses in the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration is restricted to students who have completed at least 60 semester units (i.e., have achieved junior standing). Course prerequisites are strictly enforced.

Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy

The objective of the M.A. in Social Sciences is to provide students with a survey of the concepts and ideas social scientists study with emphasis placed upon the domestic and international impact of global processes and global connectivity. While the program provides course work in each of the contributing disciplines of Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, and Sociology, the program also supports interdisciplinary learning and research through a colloquium series. This program is especially attractive to those pursuing a career in or seeking advancement in secondary school and community college teaching in the social sciences. Those interested in work in other types of educational and social science related fields, such as non-profit or non-governmental work, applied social sciences, and those interested in pursuing advanced degrees (Ph.D., J.D., etc.) may also benefit from this program.

The Master of Science in Computer Science degree program provides students with academic and professional opportunities at three levels. At the first level, the program allows individuals with a baccalaureate degree in computer science (or a related field) to broaden their knowledge of the subject as well as strengthen their professional marketability and increase their earning potential. At the second level, the M.S. in Computer Science program can be an avenue for career change to computer science for those who have degrees and employment in other fields. Lastly, at the third level, the M.S. in Computer Science program provides individuals with a strong foundation for graduate study at the doctorate level.

The Master of Science in Biology is designed for students entering research-re­lated careers or planning to enter advanced graduate and professional de­gree programs. The general goal of the program is to provide students with the opportunity to sharpen their knowledge and expertise, improve their ability for self-directed study, and advance intellectual responsibility, all in preparation for professional leadership in the field of biology. The program allows students the flexibility to develop avenues of study and thesis research proposals based on their interests and goals.

The Master of Arts program in Child Development (MACD) is a 2-year, 51 unit evening program that strives to foster an understanding of the major theories and empirical research in child development from infancy through adolescence. This includes an understanding of the core psychological domains of cognition, language, physiology, and emotions, personality and social-behavioural, along with an understanding of developmental methods. An emphasis will be placed on understanding development in the contexts in which children live their lives including family, school, and peer groups.

Completion of the requirements for the degree will also meet the following GE categories:  B1; B2; laboratory activity; B4; and 3 lower-division units from category D.

In order to receive the Verification Statement from the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), graduates must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.8; and must receive a grade of B- (2.7) or higher in the 3000 and 4000-level DPD courses.  This Verification Statement is required for dietetic internship or supervised-practice program to become a registered dietitian/nutritionist (RDN) as well as to take the Nutrition and Dietetic Technician Registration (NDTR) exam.
