The Ceramics program explores the production of both functional and non-functional art objects. Technical course work specializes in throwing, handbuilding, ceramic sculpture, moldmaking and casting, kiln design, clay and glaze technology. Special consideration is given to the history of ceramics and issues in contemporary art.

The management option is designed to prepare students for a successful career in managing the business enterprise. Attention is given to creating and maintaining an effective and efficient organization in the face of a challenging dynamic global environment. The philosophical, theoretical, and practical foundations of management will be considered in the context of values and ethics. Highly qualified and dedicated faculty deliver courses on various aspects of management theory and practice, preparing students for professional careers in middle and upper management.

The Accelerated Full-time MBA (AMBA) program integrates Entrepreneurship and Innovation throughout the curriculum. It prepares you with the quantitative, analytical and creative skills that you need to start your career as an Entrepreneur (innovating by starting your business) and an Intrapreneur (innovating within an established company).

The degree requires courses in both 2D and 3D programs. This is an opportunity for students to explore many of our art disciplines.

Studio Art allows for a wider breadth of artistic opportunity. Rather than focusing on a single medium, all School of Art program areas offer room for experimentation. Ultimately, a focus is comprised of a selection of courses that exemplify each individual student's artistic goals.

The Africana Studies major is designed to provide students with a rich intellectual experience through the critical and systematic study of the life, thought and practice of African peoples, Continental and Diasporan, in their current and historical dimensions. Africana Studies seeks to critically examine and understand the Africana initiative and experience from an Afrocentric or African-centered perspective, i.e., from a position internal to the culture of the people studied, while retaining a respect for and openness to the multicultural character and instructive value of the total human experience.

The Master of Arts in Education, Option in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education (30-33 units) is designed to foster the development of educators who are caring, effective, reflective, and committed to improving their schools. Coursework prepares teachers to apply theoretical insights and research findings to the practical problems they encounter in their work in curriculum and instruction.

A core mission of our program is to provide high-quality graduate training in marine biology research. Students interested in marine biology-related topics enter the Master of Science in Biology program and work directly with marine biology faculty to design and carry out basic and applied research projects. Graduate work in marine biology at CSU Long Beach provides students with solid training in experimental design, field and laboratory research, statistical analysis, and science communication. These skills permit our graduates to pursue a wide diversity of science-related careers, including teaching at the community college level, work in biological consulting firms, or positions in regional, state, or federal resource management agencies. Many of our graduates also continue their studies in Ph.D. programs, opening up even more career opportunities.

Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions. Sociology’s subject matter is diverse, ranging from education to religion, from the family to the state, from the divisions of gender and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture, and from social stability to radical societal change. What unifies these diverse topics of study, however, is sociology’s core purpose of understanding how human action and consciousness both shape and are shaped by surrounding cultural and social structures.

Sociology is an exciting and enlightening field of study that analyzes and explains important issues in our personal lives, our communities, and the world. At the individual level, sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of things such as emotions and ideologies, racial identity, sexuality, health and wellness, and crime. At the societal level, sociology addresses issues such as poverty and wealth, prejudice and discrimination, schools and education, law and the criminal justice system, and social movements. And at the global level, sociology studies such phenomena as political power, migration, war, terrorism, human rights and economic development. Students of sociology are challenged to look beyond the “normal”, taken-for-granted views to develop deeper and revealing understandings of the world around us.

The programs in chemistry and biochemistry at the bachelor’s degree level are planned to develop background in a specific science, to serve as preparation for graduate work in chemistry or biochemistry, and to provide a foundation for those students seeking careers in the chemical sciences, teaching, law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and other health?related professions, and in industrial and governmental scientific occupations.

The Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration degree program at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is fully online, and prepares graduates for organizational leadership and senior-level positions across the emergency services sector. The program's high-quality, wide-ranging courses engage students in theory and research that inform the management of disaster risk. Program coursework culminates in projects or theses that directly strengthen students’ organizations and communities.

In recent years, emergency services professions have become extremely competitive, with demands for personnel to further their education to attain promotion and keep up with technical advances. Those in the following fields are well-suited for this program: firefighters, police officers, military personnel, emergency medical services personnel, and disaster response planners within government, business, and industry.
