The Master of Arts in Human Experience Design Interactions (MA_HXDI) is comprised of 33 semester units. The program prepares students and/or returning professionals from diverse undergraduate backgrounds for advanced multidisciplinary design work in careers of their choice. Through the MA_HXDI program, students will develop expertise in the tools and methods of experience design as a strategy for making and adding value to systems, products, spaces, and services. Through a diverse faculty and collaborations with leading organizations, students will use cutting-edge technology tools while developing novel solutions to complex challenges. These tools provide both the quantitative data to support the qualitative research of human-centered design, as well as the digital interactions of contemporary human communication and experience. This ‘theory plus practice’ approach prepares students to smoothly transition into the broad spectrum of professional design roles, from design research to interaction design. Through research labs in the department of design, students have the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research, independently and through collaborations with business, government, education, entertainment, health care, and technology organizations. These collaborations provide students with highly sought after knowledge and skills for advanced design work.

This master's degree provides foundations and practical skills for individuals seeking career growth in educational, corporate, and public service settings that use educational technologies including resources for e-learning and social media. The program prepares graduates for leadership roles in educational institutions and other agencies; it provides training in instructional design, multimedia development and management, and e-learning, and it builds a foundation for individuals planning to pursue doctoral degrees.

The Graduate Center for Public Policy and Administration offers the Master of Public Administration degree; Options in the degree program include Public Works Administration and Urban Affairs; and graduate certificate programs exist in Employer-Employee Relations and Personnel Management, Public Management Analysis, and Public Sector Financial Management.

Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) is designed to provide students with an advanced and highly sought-after expertise necessary in the field of information systems. The program provides training in advanced technical, managerial, and analytical techniques with a focus on digital transformation, data analytics, and cyber security, which will advance student career prospects and prepare them for lifelong learning in a global economy. Students can choose one of two tracks (accelerated/fulltime or professional/part-time) to accommodate their work schedule and their career goals.

The Fast Track Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program is available to promising students seeking a career in Information Systems. CSULB undergraduate information systems students may apply to the Fast Track MSIS program as undergraduates. Students are eligible for the Fast Track MSIS if they maintain a 3.0 Overall and Upper Division Major GPA. This degree is available to qualified students preparing for professional careers in research, education, industry, consulting, government, and health professions. Our Biology M.S. degrees are appropriate choices for students seeking to increase their competitiveness for further studies at the doctoral level and professional schools. The Masters of Science in Gerontology Program provides a flexible interdisciplinary curriculum that gives new and seasoned professionals the competencies necessary for success in the field of aging. It provides experiential as well as didactic graduate education and professional training in gerontology for individuals planning to become professionals in public and private agencies. It provides field experiences to enhance understanding of concepts, themes, and skills related to aging at various life stages, within different gender and racial/ethnic groups and among people with various abilities. Students gain knowledge and skills necessary to plan, develop and implement innovative programs to meet the needs of the growing aging population locally, state-wide, nationally, and internationally. Students are supported in exploring aging-related professional values and ethics.

Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary program that offers three concentrations: Asia Area Studies; Asia and Business; Asia and Globalization. All of these concentrations share a common core. Beyond the common core requirements, students select elective courses from one of the three concentrations to complete their 39 unit requirement for the major. Regular consultation with an advisor is highly recommended. Because of the importance of statistics to this discipline, students are advised to include STAT 108 among their GE courses. A “C” grade in all required and elective classes in the major is required for continuation of the program. It is also suggested that students take AST 320 or AST 336 for their required Upper Division WI Capstone course.
