Students and graduates will be able to apply techniques of computer science to analyse, synthesize and evaluate solutions to practical, real-world problems. Students and graduates will demonstrate expertise in up-to-date practices concerning systems, networks, tools, algorithms, and advanced topics. Graduates will become self-sufficient learners of computer science. Students and graduates will exhibit knowledge of the ethics of computing and will act in an ethical and moral manner in their studies and their work.

This program prepares graduates for licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) which is essential for employment in the mental health field and private practice. Students may complete the Master of Science (M.S.) in Addiction Counseling program within 2 years or also have the option of completing the program on a part-time basis. Students have the option of taking classes in the early evening and late afternoon. Graduates of the program are eligible for employment in mental health settings, working as out- and in-patient therapists, mobile therapists, substance abuse counselors, etc.

Marketing is a specialization in business concerned with developing strategies and tactics to create value for customers. Marketing can involve many facets of business—everything from the conception and design of the product or service, to pricing, promotion and distribution.

At Duquesne, you will begin the marketing major by taking a three-course core curriculum, which includes sales fundamentals, buyer behavior and marketing research. You can then concentrate in one of three areas: Sports Marketing, Professional Selling & Marketing or Digital Marketing & Analytics.

Being an entrepreneur isn't just about starting a business. Entrepreneurship is a way of looking at the world. It's about innovative thinking, taking calculated risks, and, most importantly, about being able to recognize and seize outstanding opportunities to solve problems and create value.

As you develop an entrepreneurial mindset, you will envision new ways of doing things. Whatever career you pursue or company you decide to work for, having an entrepreneurial mindset will be essential for your success.

In fact, entrepreneurship skills drive problem-solving and innovation in all areas of business-new ventures, corporations, government, and the nonprofit sector.

Communication Studies draws from the richness of the communication discipline to allow students to design programs of study that meet their unique interests and professional goals. Students can develop competencies in a number of areas, including intercultural and interpersonal communication, organizational communication, argumentation, event planning, persuasion, professional communication, visual communication, rhetoric and popular culture, and community relations. Communication Studies majors pursue careers in family businesses and for-profit and non-profit organizations or graduate school in communication, law, public policy, healthy policy and administration, or business.

Rhetoric explores professional and public leadership grounded in the liberal arts tradition. Students learn the history and practice of producing and interpreting oral and written arguments in the professional and public spheres. Rhetoric majors pursue careers in law, public policy advocacy, nonprofit administration, business, and countless other fields in a globalizing marketplace.

Additionally, the Department offers a selection of courses for non-science majors carefully designed to meet University Core science requirements, in a range of topics from the traditional to the fun-filled and even the exotic.

Our faculty are dedicated teacher-scholars who enjoy helping students experience the thrill of learning about nature first-hand. The Department pursues a vigorous research program in experimental condensed matter, experimental atomic physics and experimental nuclear physics, all areas open to undergraduate involvement.

CERE's Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science gives students a strong foundation in the natural sciences and mathematics, as well as provides them with a broad background in environmental issues. Courses emphasize the integration of science, policy, and theory as well as connections to the local community and private sector.

The Finance major is comprised of courses in two broad areas:  Corporate Finance and Investments. 

In Corporate Finance, students learn to analyze business opportunities to identify those that create value.  Financial analysis boils down to sophisticated cost-benefit analysis for decision making in all aspects of business, and students majoring in Finance successfully pursue careers with major corporate and other organizations.

In Investments, students learn to structure portfolios of stocks, bonds and other financial assets that meet the objectives of institutional and individual investors.  The curriculum helps prepare students who wish to sit for Level I of the CFA exam series, and many graduates in Finance successfully pursue careers in asset management and wealth advising.
