The size of our department is small enough to allow our undergraduate and graduate students to have a personalized experience, but at the same time we offer access to top-notch research opportunities and modern instrumentation typically available at larger universities.

The study of History enriches all who undertake it.  It sits at the center of the liberal arts, for it is concerned with all areas of human endeavor—politics, economics, social arrangements, psychology, thought, and religion.

Our History Majors:

Communication Studies draws from the richness of the communication discipline to allow students to design programs of study that meet their unique interests and professional goals. Students can develop competencies in a number of areas, including intercultural and interpersonal communication, organizational communication, argumentation, event planning, persuasion, professional communication, visual communication, rhetoric and popular culture, and community relations. Communication Studies majors pursue careers in family businesses and for-profit and non-profit organizations or graduate school in communication, law, public policy, healthy policy and administration, or business.

Additionally, the Department offers a selection of courses for non-science majors carefully designed to meet University Core science requirements, in a range of topics from the traditional to the fun-filled and even the exotic.

Our faculty are dedicated teacher-scholars who enjoy helping students experience the thrill of learning about nature first-hand. The Department pursues a vigorous research program in experimental condensed matter, experimental atomic physics and experimental nuclear physics, all areas open to undergraduate involvement.

The Finance major is comprised of courses in two broad areas:  Corporate Finance and Investments. 

In Corporate Finance, students learn to analyze business opportunities to identify those that create value.  Financial analysis boils down to sophisticated cost-benefit analysis for decision making in all aspects of business, and students majoring in Finance successfully pursue careers with major corporate and other organizations.

In Investments, students learn to structure portfolios of stocks, bonds and other financial assets that meet the objectives of institutional and individual investors.  The curriculum helps prepare students who wish to sit for Level I of the CFA exam series, and many graduates in Finance successfully pursue careers in asset management and wealth advising.

Duquesne's 30-credit MS in Analytics & Information Management (MS-AIM) will prepare you to apply models, analytical methods and visualization tools to data, producing insights that lead to better business decisions. You'll gain distinctive skills, including:

• Expertise in data analytics and information management with a strong focus on business strategies.
• Proven techniques such as storytelling to communicate and explain your findings.
• Understanding of data manipulation, data modeling, querying, machine learning, and visualizations

Our AACSB accredited program is designed for working professionals who want to advance their careers, seize opportunities and impact any organisation's bottom line through the supply chain. MS in Supply Chain Management is a STEM Designated Program. STEM designated programs provide interdisciplinary technical and mathematical skills, as well as the business acumen needed to help solve complex business issues and help navigate the future of business.

Marketing is a specialization in business concerned with developing strategies and tactics to create value for customers. Marketing can involve many facets of business—everything from the conception and design of the product or service, to pricing, promotion and distribution.

At Duquesne, you will begin the marketing major by taking a three-course core curriculum, which includes sales fundamentals, buyer behavior and marketing research. You can then concentrate in one of three areas: Sports Marketing, Professional Selling & Marketing or Digital Marketing & Analytics.
