A degree in Music Performance provides you with the real-world skills you need for success in a competitive and demanding professional environment. Simply put, you will learn from artist-teachers who are networked into the music industry from New York to LA, from Beijing to Sydney, and across Europe. Work alongside solo artists, recording artists, contractors, entrepreneurs, members of military ensembles, composers and arrangers, and many more.

The Finance major is comprised of courses in two broad areas:  Corporate Finance and Investments. 

In Corporate Finance, students learn to analyze business opportunities to identify those that create value.  Financial analysis boils down to sophisticated cost-benefit analysis for decision making in all aspects of business, and students majoring in Finance successfully pursue careers with major corporate and other organizations.

In Investments, students learn to structure portfolios of stocks, bonds and other financial assets that meet the objectives of institutional and individual investors.  The curriculum helps prepare students who wish to sit for Level I of the CFA exam series, and many graduates in Finance successfully pursue careers in asset management and wealth advising.

The Duquesne University Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) Program was the first five-year, entry-level Master's degree program in the nation.

Our graduates become health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. They provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, in primary and specialty care in medical and surgical practice settings.

Program Structure

"Entry level" students come into Duquesne University as freshmen, complete the five year curriculum, and earn both a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree.

• The rigorous 3-year pre-professional curriculum is comprised of core curriculum requirements and pre-requisites for the accredited phase.
• Pre-requisite courses provide the strong science background necessary for academic success as an accredited phase student.
• Pre-professional phase students meet with PA program faculty on a regular basis and have numerous opportunities to learn more about the program and the PA profession.

Liberal Arts students may design a Liberal Arts major if they prefer not to choose a formal major course of study offered in a traditional discipline. A self-designed major allows for the election of a concentration in either the humanities or social sciences, or it may be built around a theme that brings together courses in both the humanities and social sciences.

The size of our department is small enough to allow our undergraduate and graduate students to have a personalized experience, but at the same time we offer access to top-notch research opportunities and modern instrumentation typically available at larger universities.

Course work in these areas provides students with a thorough grounding in the fundamental skills and practices of public relations and advertising along with a theoretical understanding of their cultural importance as the primary means of persuasion in modern life. Students explore the differences, similarities and integration of public relations and advertising, a critical evaluation of industry content, and hands-on production skills. As students move through the program, they can gain professional experience with on-campus and metro-area media and agencies.

Working with a departmental mentor, students may emphasize either public relations or advertising or choose an integrated approach to both.

Throughout the program, students will be able to:

• Create a wide variety of advertisements for magazines, newspapers and TV.
• Manage advertising and public relations campaigns.
• Create campaigns for nonprofit institutions.
• Plan events.
• Understand and apply international advertising and public relations media needs.
• Account for cultural differences and how they impact advertising or public relations.

Being an entrepreneur isn't just about starting a business. Entrepreneurship is a way of looking at the world. It's about innovative thinking, taking calculated risks, and, most importantly, about being able to recognize and seize outstanding opportunities to solve problems and create value.

As you develop an entrepreneurial mindset, you will envision new ways of doing things. Whatever career you pursue or company you decide to work for, having an entrepreneurial mindset will be essential for your success.

In fact, entrepreneurship skills drive problem-solving and innovation in all areas of business-new ventures, corporations, government, and the nonprofit sector.

Public History is history that happens outside of a textbook and the classroom. Public Historians interpret the past for the public in museums, national parks, historic houses, or on main streets. Public History programs give you skills to deal with different audiences, various materials, and multiple contexts. It is often called 'applied history', because it mixes deep historical knowledge with theory and practice.

This program prepares graduates for licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) which is essential for employment in the mental health field and private practice. Students may complete the Master of Science (M.S.) in Addiction Counseling program within 2 years or also have the option of completing the program on a part-time basis. Students have the option of taking classes in the early evening and late afternoon. Graduates of the program are eligible for employment in mental health settings, working as out- and in-patient therapists, mobile therapists, substance abuse counselors, etc.

Public health promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play. With a bachelor's degree in public health, graduates can make an impact on public health locally and globally, conducting research, educating, and coordinating resources to prevent the spread of diseases.
