The Physics Department at Seattle Pacific University seeks to prepare students to use the history and ideas of physics and their analytical, computational, and research skills to engage the culture, the Creation, their minds, and the minds of others.

Physics studies the changes, interactions, and properties of matter and energy and, as a result, strongly influences humankind’s understanding of nature. In addition, as engineers create new technology based on the principles first discovered by physicists, the social economics and political structures of society change.

The Master of Arts in Theology degree program focuses on the classical theological disciplines of Scripture, Church history, theology, and ethics. The Christian Ministry concentration is designed for students who have a personal interest in theological study, are engaged in congregational or parachurch ministries, or are considering further advanced academic study in theology. The Christian Ministry concentration is a highly malleable, self-designed degree.

The Business Administration major in the School of Business, Government, and Economics at SPU allows you to develop essential business skills in a uniquely Christian environment that emphasizes values, ethics, and an understanding of business as a means to serve.

The Business Administration major provides you with a broad-based education in the fundamental theories, principles, and practices of modern business. You will learn standards of professional and ethical behavior, along with the technical expertise and leadership attributes necessary to attain a variety of positions in business.

As part of the Business Administration major, students also gain vital industry experience by participating in our SBGE internship program. Our students have held internships at leading local businesses and companies such as Starbucks, Boeing, Microsoft, the Seattle Mariners, and Merrill Lynch.

The Social Enterprise concentration draws upon the unique strengths of the School of Business, Government, and Economics in areas such as social venture, management, and microfinance.

Are you a musician with a desire to help people cultivate their physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual well-being through music? The Music Therapy Program — the first and only Music Therapy program in Washington state — offers many opportunities for musicians to use their skills and aptitude to serve others through the functional use of music.

The program is designed for you to develop entry-level competencies required as a professional music therapist, prepare you for a six-month clinical internship, and, ultimately, pass the national board certification exam to earn your Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) designation.

Our goal is to provide you with a personalized education of classroom and practical clinical experiences that will allow the music therapist within you to develop to meet professional standards. In this shared journey, you will become increasingly aware of who you are as a musician and how your music can affect the spiritual, mental, physical and psychological well-being of others.

With a degree in Electrical Engineering, you’ll prepare for a wide set of rewarding career options in a dynamic field. Some of the projects you’ll work on may not even be invented, yet!

Electrical engineers design and develop things such as new energy systems, biomedical equipment, computing technologies, telecommunications, transportation, entertainment, and many more systems related to electricity, electronics, or electromagnetism.

Many graduates have gone on to blaze new trails in the education realm, and even earn Washington state’s Teacher of the Year award, an honour given to only one outstanding Washington teacher annually. The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program was created to integrate teacher certification with a master's degree in a two-year program for working professionals. Among other benefits, graduates of the program earn their Washington Residency Teacher Certificate, earn higher placement on the salary schedule, and become equipped to guide students of all backgrounds and abilities to achieve excellence. In addition, SPU’s School of Education offers one-year alternative route teaching programs, including AMAT and AMTMS.

Whether you major, minor, or take courses as part of your electives, studying the Classics at Seattle Pacific University allows you to develop the analytical skills needed to understand ancient languages and engage in disciplines such as linguistics or textual criticism. You will also discover how Classics can add depth to disciplines such as history, philosophy, and art criticism.

With half the words in English vocabulary made up of Latin or Greek words and roots, majoring or minoring in Classics, or minoring in Latin, gives you a great preparation for any of the liberal arts. And because Latin provides the root words for science vocabularies, you will also understand science and math terminology in a new way — as well as gain personal satisfaction.

As an Illustration major, students are trained in a variety of digital and traditional mediums, with an emphasis on building strong practical skills that can be applied in diverse ways. 

After mastering the foundation level curriculum including painting and figure drawing, students may choose to create coursework that emphasizes Illustration for Publishing, Illustration for Entertainment Design, Illustration for Surface Design, Motion design and Illustrative Fine Art.

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics is a flexible yet demanding major designed for students interested in careers involving the applications of mathematics in a particular field.
