The Human Development and Family Relations (HDFR) Bachelor of Science program prepares students to effectively serve individuals and families in a wide variety of environments. HDFR is committed to a curriculum rich in family diversity and social justice.

The 3D Graphics and Animation program at CU Denver, recognized as one of the top 25 national programs by Animation Career Review, trains students to be 3D digital content creators—in film, entertainment, medicine, and science. Students graduate with instruction in arts aesthetics, critical thinking, and communication skills while providing an intense level of expertise, instruction, and immersion in digital 3D animation and graphics.

Communication is a discipline concerned with the study of messages in the context of human relationships. Courses in communication examine the nature, use, and role of messages among individuals and within small groups, organizations, and society in whatever form they assume—oral, written, visual, mediated, and technological.

A degree in Communication develops knowledge and skills that are required for many different fields, including advertising, business, international relations, education, public service, government and politics, health care, and public relations. Because college graduates are expected to change careers approximately seven times over the course of their lives, and because employers across a wide variety of fields primarily seek applicants with strong oral and written communication skills, a degree in communication is a versatile and timely choice.

The Communication major at the University of Colorado Denver has as its focus and mission the development of the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to use communication to create a more civil and humane world. The curriculum was developed to counter the pervasive atmosphere of unrelenting contention and uncivil communication that characterizes the contemporary world.

Chemistry is the study of matter and its transformations, from the smallest scale - atoms and subatomic particles - to the macromolecules that provide structure and function to living organisms. Chemistry is often called the “central science” because it touches on other STEM disciplines including physics, biology, medicine, environmental science, geology, mathematics, materials science, technology, and many others. A degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry can prepare you for a wide range of meaningful careers discovering and applying scientific knowledge. Modern chemistry combines computer modeling and experimental observation using procedures that are much safer and more environment-friendly than in past generations. The Department of Film & Television offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Film and Television. This BFA emphasis provides intensive and practical training that requires successful completion of numerous film/TV projects, varying in styles from fiction to documentary. The emphasis is designed so that students will progress through the semesters as a cohort group. Undergraduates will not only work on their own projects but also will assist on numerous group projects. Students will graduate with both a theoretical and historical perspective, as well as a hands-on experience in film and television production.

The recording arts emphasis focuses on contemporary analog and digital technology as it is used in music recording, sound reinforcement and media applications. While mastering technology skills and formats, musicians also study the artistic and aesthetic applications of technology to recording, reinforcement, composition and performance.

The English Writing, Rhetoric & Technology program will prepare one to think critically, read carefully, solve problems creatively, and write with clarity, grace, and power. These are exactly the qualities needed to succeed as a writer when faced with diverse writing challenges in a breadth of professional settings or in graduate school. As a writing major, one will gain the confidence to take on a variety of assignments and complete them successfully. English majors learn to synthesize information and to present their ideas and opinions skillfully.

The French program is designed for students wishing to improve their linguistic skills as well as their knowledge of Francophone literature and culture. The French program offers courses in advanced language, linguistics, literature, civilization, and culture, all taught exclusively in French.

The digital design emphasis integrates aesthetic, creative and critical thought with expertise in electronic media and graphic design. Configured as an interdisciplinary arts and design laboratory, digital design offers a hands-on education combining new art technologies and design research to promote an understanding of the cultural impact and use of digital technology to solve human, social and business problems. Through this interdisciplinary approach combining arts and communication, digital design strives to produce artists and designers who will use technology in innovative ways in both commercial and artistic spheres.
