The bachelor of science in integrated science offers students the opportunity to design their own degree program. As an alternative to traditional majors, this individualized program of study allows students to pursue their academic and professional goals in concentration areas not available within existing departmental curricula. With the mentoring of a faculty advisory committee, students focus their degree and select courses across multiple concentration areas to create an individualized and interdisciplinary program of study. Specific degree requirements and concentrations are defined and approved by the student's faculty advisory committee.

Human Development and Family Science provides a comprehensive program grounded in family science theory, research, and professional practice and application for individuals to work with children and families. This career path provides students with knowledge and intervention skills that will assist them in helping to prevent and remedy interpersonal problems experienced by individuals in their family relationships, building on the family’s strengths. In addition, Family Science will prepare students for graduate school (e.g. family science, family therapy, social work, counseling psychology, and law), or for employment in human services agencies or programs.

The College of Business at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln has established an undergraduate supply chain management major to educate students to become supply chain management professionals. Supply chain management (SCM) includes all the activities that must take place to get the right products and services into the right customer’s hands in the right quantity at the right time—from raw material extraction to consumer purchase.

The topics that SCM covers are diverse and include procurement, order fulfillment, inventory management, supplier relationship management, product development and commercialization, returns management, physical distribution and shipping, warehousing, and outsourcing. With the depth and breadth of issues that it encompasses, industries that use SCM tools and approaches include transportation, hospitals, government organizations, construction, processing, social services, electronics, facility design, manufacturing, and warehousing.

What you will learn
Supply Chain Management (SCM) provides students with the skills and expertise to analyze and manage the chain of activities from concept development to distribution of products and services. Individuals skilled in SCM deliver insight to businesses for creating efficient and effective processes. SCM focuses on the core areas of business planning, purchasing, product assembly, distribution, sales, and customer service.

Students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the golf industry through extensive classroom studies, self-study courses, internships, and tournament participation and player development. This includes a basic background in managing golf facilities and related organizations, business and personnel management, restaurant and hospitality management, recreation, and golf instruction. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in PGA Golf Management, and with PGA-eligible employment, automatically qualify for PGA membership.

This option is a joint program between the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies and the College of Journalism and Mass Communications (CoJMC). The student combines a broad background in child, youth and family studies with one emphasis from C0JMC (advertising and public relations, broadcasting or journalism) of the student’s choice.

Your major in Latin American studies will move you to explore peoples, languages and cultures of Latin America. You will gain an understanding of the cultures of Latin America and a proficiency in either Spanish or Portuguese. In addition, you will work closely with faculty whose research involves Latin American languages, culture and landscapes.

You will enroll in courses from multiple disciplines to examine the world through the lens of social justice and human rights. The major includes theoretical and methodological courses, comparative courses and focused topical courses that provide you with rigorous analytical skills to investigate and understand the experiences of diverse populations.

This degree program prepares students for careers in communications, advocacy, and public service roles in the agricultural, natural resources, and environmental disciplines. Degree requirements provide students a broad education combining skills and knowledge in agricultural, environmental, and natural resources sciences; the social sciences; and mass communications. Graduates of this program are also qualified to pursue careers in public relations and public service in government agencies, nonprofit, and private organizations.

This program of study emphasizes the application of both business and economic principles to the problems/issues confronting agribusiness firms. Students will have an opportunity to pursue a rigorous program of study in both agricultural sciences and business courses leading to a career in a wide range of employment opportunities within the agribusiness field. With assistance from academic advisors, students can acquire depth and/or breadth in their program of study by selecting elective courses that meet their own individual interests.

The microbiology major is an interdepartmental major that offers educational opportunities in various areas of microbiology leading to a bachelor of science degree in microbiology. The training offered is suitable for a professional career in microbiology, which may lead to employment in the food industry, clinical microbiology, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals; or federal agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Public Health Service, and Environmental Protection Agency. The program is also suitable as preparation for graduate studies leading to academic careers and professional careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and health-related fields.

The goal of any financial system is to allocate monetary resources to those individuals, companies, and governmental units that have the best ideas for usage. The study of finance focuses on the organization and development of capital markets and financial institutions in achieving the optimal usage of funds. As a finance student, you might want to examine how conflict of interest affects managerial performance, how risk influences investment decisions, or how investor psychology can impact the price of stocks and bonds. The finance faculty offer strong support for the exploration of such topics and the curriculum is designed to prepare students in areas of high employment demand.

The finance major offers coursework in the following areas of specialization:

• General Finance

Finance students must declare one of these specializations as a formal option within their major. Multiple options cannot be chosen. Students are encouraged to meet with their Business Advising and Student Engagement (BASE) advisors on a regular basis. The department chair is also available to answer questions regarding the selection of courses or other questions related to the finance curriculum.

What you will learn
Students will learn to apply the principles and techniques of time value of money, quantify and interpret risk/reward relationships using a variety of metrics, estimate the fundamental value of traded and non-traded assets, identify resources of risk and implement appropriate risk management techniques and analyze market conditions for strategic planning.
