The B.A. in Music and an Outside Field is designed for students who want to major in music while receiving a broad, liberal arts education.  B.A. students will select an outside field (27 credits), which will allow them to either earn a second bachelor's degree or prepare for placement exams for graduate school (Ex. medical and law school).  This curriculum will give students broad experience in liberal arts and sciences and opportunities to develop intellectual skills in analysis and evaluation, as well as competence in written and oral communication while mastering the creativity and discipline required to complete a music degree. The B.A. in Music and an Outside Field prepares students for either graduate school or careers in various music fields with orchestral, chamber music, opera and choral organizations as well as areas such as arts administration and arts education. Students will also have the opportunity to pursue careers in a variety of fields that may be interdisciplinary in nature. Permission to major or minor in music is granted by the department of music and an audition is required.

The Department of Computer Science offers several graduate programs that provide instruction on a variety of modern topics in data analytics, software engineering, parallel and distributed computing, and cybersecurity giving graduates the edge to be highly competitive in today's IT job market.

The department annually awards several scholarships, fellowships, and out-of-state tuition waivers to new and returning students. The B.S. in Physics focuses on the study of matter and its motion.  Ultimately, the goal of physics is to understand how nature behaves from the smallest sub-atomic particle to the entire universe, making it the most fundamental natural science. The various topics covered include electricity and magnetism, electronics, fluids, mechanics, optics, quantum phenomena, concepts of relativity, thermodynamics, waves, and several related laboratory activities.

The Physics Department offers the traditional B.S. program in Physics with specializations in Physics or Engineering Physics.  In addition to graduate school, a trained physicist may enter the employment market as a research scientist. Those with an engineering physics background are eligible for entry-level jobs as engineers in organizations such as the Department of Defense, NASA, and the various national labs.

Students interested in obtaining certification to teach this subject area in secondary education need to contact an advisor in this department to carefully plan the course work to satisfy degree and some teacher certification requirements. A degree in this major is required for participation in teacher education certification options.

Medical laboratory professionals are health care detectives. In this program, you will learn to gather evidence and uncover clues needed to effectively diagnose and treat patients.

The Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) program prepares graduates to work with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organisations within medical and behavioral health settings, with a special focus on military populations. The Master of Social Work program at UWF develops advanced practitioners who can demonstrate clinical and critical thinking skills necessary to assist clients in a broad range of dilemmas and settings.

Effective communication is vital to the success of any organization. The Department of Communication empowers students to creatively manage professional communication challenges. Graduates learn to speak effectively, write clearly, communicate persuasively, solve problems, lead, and practice professional ethics. The program for majors in the Department of Communication consists of 39 credit hours.

Department students have been recognized in a resolution by the State of Florida House of Representatives, won the State Advertising Championship seven times, won more than 100 ADDY Awards for Creative Excellence, won a National Forensic Association Championship, received numerous accolades from the Southeast Journalism Conference, and been recognized with the Florida Public Relations Association's Golden Image Award multiple times. The Department of Communication provides students opportunities to extend their classroom education with hands-on skill-building through internships and involvement with The Voyager, UWF Forensics, and a multitude of community engagement opportunities.

The M.S. in Environmental Science provides advanced research and educational opportunities in the earth and environmental sciences. Departmental areas of concentration include coastal science, paleoclimatology, landscape ecology, geographic information science, aquatic biogeochemistry, and soils science. The program includes both thesis and non-thesis tracks. The non-thesis track provides a foundation for employment in the private and public sectors of the environmental fields. In addition, the thesis track prepares students for advanced study leading to the doctoral degree. The B.A. in International Studies is an interdisciplinary program that brings together courses from various academic disciplines in the social sciences, humanities, and business.  The program has the aim of training students to approach global issues from a variety of perspectives preparing them to be global citizens and workers in an interconnected world.  Upon graduation, International Studies majors may pursue opportunities in government, military, business, policy analysis, foundations, the media, humanitarian agencies, and organizations with a presence abroad.  International Studies students choose from three different concentration tracks of study: diplomacy and international affairs, security studies, or international business and economics.

The College Student Affairs Administration (CSAA) program is designed for those students interested in a professional career in the various college and university student affairs and student services areas. Program participants will prepare for careers involving organisational management, student development, leadership training, and administration. Guided by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), the curriculum includes selected foundational studies; student development theory; student characteristics and effects of college on students; individual, group, and organisational interventions; organisation and administration; and assessment and evaluation. The program also includes substantial supervised internship opportunities.

The master’s degree in College Student Affairs Administration is a 36 hour program designed to be completed in two years. The program includes a professional core in addition to an an opportunity to choose one advisor-approved elective. At least six hours of internship experience is included in the professional core. Internships are available in a wide variety of student affairs and student service areas. Students are encouraged to seek at least one internship experience away from the UWF campus.

The B.A. in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences is for students wishing to pursue careers in fields that focus on solutions to some of society’s most pressing problems. Specializations available are Children & Society and Community Education. Courses in these specializations draw from multiple disciplines.

The mission of the Interdisciplinary Social Science Children and Society specialization is to prepare students to study, support, and work with children and their families. The program emphasizes the complex and interconnected issues and challenges faced by children and families in modern society. The broad focus enables students to explain phenomenon, solve problems, and raise new questions in ways uncommon through a single-disciplinary focus.
