Associate of Arts in Anthropology Pathway

The AA pathway in Anthropology is for students who want to pursue a bachelor's degree in anthropology or a related field. Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. To understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across human history, anthropology draws and builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as the humanities and physical sciences.

Courses in this track may be applied toward your degree at the institution where you plan to transfer. Students are advised to consult an advisor or counselor for general education and recommended courses/electives for this pathway.

The rise of globalization and new regulatory processes has created a demand for accounting professionals across many sectors of business, government and nonprofit agencies. Accounting technology prepares you for employment as an accountant or accounting paraprofessional in occupations requiring analysis, evaluation, theory, and design. The coursework focuses on basic accounting functions as well as skills common to several fields of business, including finance, business law, and general business topics.

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year college/university degree in such fields as history, humanities, education, pre-law, political science, museum studies, journalism, library science, archeology/classics or international studies programs. This pathway is broadly designed to allow students to cater the major to their own interests, however, students are encouraged to meet with a full-time history faculty member to discuss their program interests in their first semester at HCC.

Please note only 60 of these credits are needed for AA degree completion. For each pathway, IDS 2891 is a degree requirement, and for most of the pathways, SLS 1106 is required for first?time?in?college students. CGS 2100 may be able to be tested out for no credit. The Culinary and Dietetic Management AS degree at Hillsborough Community College offers student the education, training, and experience to competently perform the responsibilities of a dietary manager and has proven this by passing the nationally recognized CDM Credentialing Exam and fulfilling the requirements needed to maintain certified status. This program has both classroom and field experience components. The field experience component consists of 2 practicums of 75 hours each, totaling 150 hours of field experience. Each field experience has a qualified preceptor on site. Graduates are eligible to apply for the CDM (Certified Dietary Manager) Credentialing Exam and ANFP Professional membership.

This Associate in Arts pathway is for students who intend to pursue a bachelor's degree at a college or university in biological sciences: general, marine or aquatic.

The HCC Mathematics Associate in Arts degree pathway is for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree at a university in mathematics or a related field. The goal of the mathematics associates degree is to enhance students’ competence in the dynamic disciplines of mathematics and statistics, and includes coursework in college algebra, trigonometry and calculus I, II & III.

Courses offered by the mathematics department promote the ability to reason quantitatively in a variety of ways. Many university programs require the completion of specific courses prior to acceptance. It is the student's responsibility to contact the institution to ensure transferability.

The computer science engineering AA pathway degree is for students who want to pursue a Bachelor's degree in computer and information engineering sciences. Technical careers may include planning and developing new computer systems, computer programming, software development, systems analyst and technical writing.

• The dental AA pathway degree is for students who wish to pursue a Bachelor's degree toward a career in dentistry.

Applicants and potential students applying to the AS degree will have earned an Advanced Technical Diploma (ATD) in medical laboratory technician (or equivalent) with 40 credit hours that transfer from the technical college. Students will earn 36 credit hours at Hillsborough Community College to complete the AS degree.

The Psychology AA pathway is for students who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology at a college or university. This degree provides the lower division psychology major courses required at many universities while exposing students to the core principles and practices of the psychology field.

This degree enables students to develop a strong foundation in research methods, statistics and biological aspects of behavior, and will offer a variety of elective courses to help students develop their knowledge of human behavior, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills.
