The HCC Mathematics Associate in Arts degree pathway is for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree at a university in mathematics or a related field. The goal of the mathematics associates degree is to enhance students’ competence in the dynamic disciplines of mathematics and statistics, and includes coursework in college algebra, trigonometry and calculus I, II & III.

Courses offered by the mathematics department promote the ability to reason quantitatively in a variety of ways. Many university programs require the completion of specific courses prior to acceptance. It is the student's responsibility to contact the institution to ensure transferability.

Please note only 60 of these credits are needed for AA degree completion. For each pathway, IDS 2891 is a degree requirement, and for most of the pathways, SLS 1106 is required for first-time-in-college students. CGS 2100 may be able to be tested out for no credit. The Psychology AA pathway is for students who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology at a college or university. This degree provides the lower division psychology major courses required at many universities while exposing students to the core principles and practices of the psychology field.

This degree enables students to develop a strong foundation in research methods, statistics and biological aspects of behavior, and will offer a variety of elective courses to help students develop their knowledge of human behavior, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills. The respiratory care AS degree prepares you to treat patients who have difficulty breathing due to pulmonary or cardiac disease. Learn to work with premature infants, children, trauma victims and patients requiring life support. Respiratory therapists work in physician offices, home care setting, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, sleep study departments and hospitals. The need for respiratory therapists continues to increase due to a growing elderly population; environmental problems; and technological advances in the treatment of lung disease, heart attack, cancer, accident victims and premature babies.

Graduates may take the national certification and registry exams to become licensed practitioners in the US.

The rise of globalization and new regulatory processes has created a demand for accounting professionals across many sectors of business, government and nonprofit agencies. Accounting technology prepares you for employment as an accountant or accounting paraprofessional in occupations requiring analysis, evaluation, theory, and design. The coursework focuses on basic accounting functions as well as skills common to several fields of business, including finance, business law, and general business topics.

An individual who has earned the Certified Respiratory Therapist credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is eligible to receive 23 hours of college credit toward respiratory care AS degree.

AS.RET.TRAN (23 credit hours)

The engineering AA pathway is for students who wish to pursue Bachelor's degrees in electrical, mechanical, civil, computer science, aerospace, nuclear, agricultural, industrial, and environmental engineering. Options in surveying and mapping, and materials design and testing are also available.

Careers include positions in the areas of design, testing, research, architecture, electronics, robotics, manufacturing, sales, construction management, and technical writing. Sonography is a medical specialty that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the human body. This program focuses on abdomen-extended, obstetrics and gynecology.  Physicians analyze these images to aid in diagnosis.

The diagnostic medical sonography AS degree prepares you to take the national registry examination to become a certified sonographer who provides imaging services under the supervision of a physician.

Graduates of this AS degree program are granted admission into the health sciences Bachelor's degree program at the University of North Florida.

The health navigator AS degree trains you for the important roles of health navigator, patient navigator or community health worker.

As a health navigator, you assist the elderly and those who have limited health literacy with accessing and maximizing benefits from community services, clinical care, and health insurance. You may also facilitate access to care and follow-up for patients with complex health issues such as cancer or HIV. Health navigators assist with identifying and enrolling patients in various health insurance plans including ACA Exchanges, Medicaid, Medicare, and disability services.

Health navigators are liaisons between patients, caregivers, and health care providers; they are advocates within a complex health care system to improve patient care.

The coursework includes the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education or related fields.

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year college/university degree in such fields as history, humanities, education, pre-law, political science, museum studies, journalism, library science, archeology/classics or international studies programs. This pathway is broadly designed to allow students to cater the major to their own interests, however, students are encouraged to meet with a full-time history faculty member to discuss their program interests in their first semester at HCC.
