Overview
The Exercise Science AA pathway degree is for students who want to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science. This degree can lead to careers in personal fitness, coaching and athletic training, or to advanced professional degrees in sports nutrition, physical therapy and other related professions.
Please note only 60 of these credits are needed for AA degree completion. For each pathway, IDS 2891 is a degree requirement, and for most of the pathways, SLS 1106 is required for first-time-in-college students. CGS 1000 may be able to be tested out for no credit. Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences Pathway
The Liberal Arts & Sciences pathway is designed for students who want to pursue a bachelor's degree in a variety of fields. Depending upon the focus of study, careers are available in such fields as linguistics, criminal justice, history, ethnic studies, foreign language, social sciences, journalism and computer science.
This curriculum is from the current college catalog and is meant to provide prospective students an example of courses taken in this degree/certificate. Associate of Science in Cardiac Catheterization
Cardiac Catheterization Technologists work alongside physicians to diagnose and treat diseases of the heart and blood vessels using X-ray imaging. These technologists are imaging specialists who also train to act as surgical assistants and circulators during cardiac and vascular catheterization procedures.
Their duties include assessment and care of the patient during the invasive procedure, surgically scrubbing to assist physician, administration of medication under the physician’s supervision, controlling procedural instruments and imaging technologies, and documenting/recording the procedural activities. These specialists are trained in invasive diagnostic cardiac and vascular catheterization procedures, cardiac and vascular invasive interventions, emergency cardiac care, structural heart repair, and invasive cardiac electrophysiology.

Associate of Science in Radiation Therapy
This program is designed for students who want to work directly with patients receiving high-energy treatments using state-of-the-art and cutting-edge technology. Students will work with a physician to administer patient treatment. Students’ performance will be based on didactic and clinical competencies.
Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to apply for the national radiation therapy examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Associate of Science in Health Navigator
The health navigator AS degree trains you for the important roles of health navigator, patient navigator or community health worker.
As a health navigator, you assist the elderly and those who have limited health literacy with accessing and maximizing benefits from community services, clinical care, and health insurance. You may also facilitate access to care and follow-up for patients with complex health issues such as cancer or HIV. Health navigators assist with identifying and enrolling patients in various health insurance plans including ACA Exchanges, Medicaid, Medicare, and disability services.
Health navigators are liaisons between patients, caregivers, and health care providers; they are advocates within a complex health care system to improve patient care.
The coursework includes the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education or related fields.

The Counseling and Human Services AS degree program prepares you to work in the life-changing fields of counseling, social work, human services, and rehabilitation. As a counseling and human services practitioner, you may provide individual and group counseling, lead workshops, offer training in daily living skills, assist with vocational planning, organize group activities, deliver case management services, and complete records and reports, often under the supervision of an advanced mental health professional. You may also act as a mediator between clients and service agencies, refer clients to appropriate community facilities and advocate for clients before local service providers and government agencies.

Associate of Arts in Dental Hygiene
The dental hygiene AS degree provides the skills and knowledge to become a licensed dental hygienist. Vital members of the dental team, dental hygienists provide non-surgical periodontal therapy that includes scaling and root planing, adult and child prophylaxis, placement of dental sealants, exposing and processing radiographs, and individualized patient education.
The dental hygiene program includes five consecutive semesters of coursework and requires 35-40 hours per week. Graduates must pass national and state dental hygiene board exams to become registered dental hygienists. Students may also complete certifications in expanded duties that are permitted by Florida Statute Title XXXII for dental auxiliaries.

Associate of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology
The nuclear medicine technology AS degree prepares you for a medical imaging specialty that uses radioactive materials to aid in the diagnosis, staging and treatment of illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and dysfunctional thyroid disease. Learn the function and structure of virtually every major organ system within the body.
Offered on the Dale Mabry Campus with clinical experience at several locations in the greater Tampa Bay area, this program is fully accredited and requires a full-time two year commitment. Classes and clinical internships are offered only during the daytime. Graduates are eligible for both nuclear medicine certification exams: the NMTCB and the ARRT-Nuclear Medicine.

The coursework includes sanitation and safety; maintenance and operation of equipment; recognition and identification of foods; proper storage of equipment; methods of preparation; usage of foods; methods of cooking; garde manger; performing different types of food services; nutrition; baking; communication skills; math skills; computer applications; supervision management; professionalism; culinary organization; food and beverage purchasing; dining room management; and beverage management. Students also receive training in communications, leadership, human relations, finance, employability skills, sanitation and safety, and efficient work practices.
Accredited by the American Culinary Federation Foundation, this program provides hands-on experiences in a simulated job environment with industry equipment, supplies and standards.
