Overview

The health navigator AS degree trains you for the important roles of health navigator, patient navigator or community health worker.

As a health navigator, you assist the elderly and those who have limited health literacy with accessing and maximizing benefits from community services, clinical care, and health insurance. You may also facilitate access to care and follow-up for patients with complex health issues such as cancer or HIV. Health navigators assist with identifying and enrolling patients in various health insurance plans including ACA Exchanges, Medicaid, Medicare, and disability services.

Health navigators are liaisons between patients, caregivers, and health care providers; they are advocates within a complex health care system to improve patient care.

The coursework includes the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education or related fields.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Associate of Arts in Dental Hygiene

The dental hygiene AS degree provides the skills and knowledge to become a licensed dental hygienist. Vital members of the dental team, dental hygienists provide non-surgical periodontal therapy that includes scaling and root planing, adult and child prophylaxis, placement of dental sealants, exposing and processing radiographs, and individualized patient education.

The dental hygiene program includes five consecutive semesters of coursework and requires 35-40 hours per week. Graduates must pass national and state dental hygiene board exams to become registered dental hygienists. Students may also complete certifications in expanded duties that are permitted by Florida Statute Title XXXII for dental auxiliaries.

Associate of Arts in Architecture Pathway

The architecture AA pathway degree is ideal for students who wish to pursue Bachelor's degrees in architectural design, interior design and landscape architecture.

If you have an interest in technology, an eye for detail and a good amount of artistic talent, this may be the path for you. HCC offers the training you need to lay the foundation for a successful career. The coursework for this program prepares you for employment as a construction planner, architectural assistant or architectural engineer, as well as to sit for the contractor's exam.

The Architecture specific courses are only offered on the Dale Mabry campus.

Digital forensics (sometimes known as digital forensic science) is a branch of forensic science encompassing the recovery and investigation of material found in digital devices, often in relation to computer crime.

Echocardiography uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the human heart. Our AS degree prepares you to perform diagnostic studies on patients in order to quantify cardiac disease, including coronary arteriography, hemodynamic monitoring and analysis, and electrophysiology studies. Graduates must pass national registry examinations to become certified echocardiography technologists.

The Psychology AA pathway is for students who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology at a college or university. This degree provides the lower division psychology major courses required at many universities while exposing students to the core principles and practices of the psychology field.

This degree enables students to develop a strong foundation in research methods, statistics and biological aspects of behavior, and will offer a variety of elective courses to help students develop their knowledge of human behavior, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills.
