International Year One in Natural Sciences will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Drew University. Upon successful completion of International Year One and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your third year of undergraduate study at Drew University or at a number of well-known US universities. Neuroscience
The Neuroscience major at Drew is an interdisciplinary program of study that allows students to explore the brain from the perspectives of many different disciplines, including biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, philosophy, and psychology. The neuroscience curriculum introduces students to current theories that explain how the brain works at a variety of levels, from molecules to behavior. Intermediate and advanced coursework provides students with the opportunity to develop an increasingly more sophisticated understanding of neural and cognitive processes, while providing them with the critical thinking and technical skills necessary to actively address some of the pressing questions in neuroscience today. In addition, the wide range of electives provides students with the opportunity to think about the workings of the brain in a broader context, and to expand their study of neuroscience beyond its traditional roots in biology and psychology.

Sociology
Crime, inequality, health care, education, politics, immigration, family, gender and race and ethnicity — today’s sociologists study all these topics. Using scientific methods to insure accuracy, sociologists focus on the causes and consequences of social interaction. Through a combination of classroom study and field work, Drew’s sociology program applies theory and research to real world problems.

Through a rich array of courses, sociology majors come to understand the connections between their everyday lives, the larger social structures of various societies and the broad global changes which characterize our times.

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Finance major is designed to appeal to students wanting to immerse themselves in financial markets and data analysis.  Our rigorous and exciting curriculum engages our students through real-world exposure to U.S. and global markets, and prepares our graduates for success in careers throughout the financial industry.

You are intrigued by language and the power of writing. You want to use writing to make a difference. You know that writing matters: in how journalists make the news, in how people connect in communities, in how leaders lead. If that sounds like you, the Writing and Communication emphasis of the English major is for you! Writing Studies includes communication, rhetoric, social media studies, journalism, literacy and language, and community writing. It is a rapidly growing field and a vibrant part of the English Major at Drew, applying the close reading and critical thinking skills of the major to a broad array of public texts and contexts. You’ll learn how language shapes what we know, believe, and do. You’ll write to change the world.

Political Science
The Political Science and International Relations Department engages students in the study of how people govern themselves—from the smallest communities to the international system. In the town meeting, the halls of Congress or the United Nations, the great political questions are the same—how to reconcile individual aspirations and community needs, freedom and equality, authority and justice, participation and power.
The department offers students a major in Political Science and another one in International Relations. We also offer minors in Political Science, International Relations and Law Justice and Society.

Business
The Business major takes an integrated, multifaceted, interdisciplinary, and critical approach to the study and practice of business. The program emphasizes teamwork; critical analysis; and quantitative, oral, and written communication skills.  Our graduates are prepared to work across many industries in diverse contexts, including corporations, non-profits, and public organizations, in both domestic and international settings, with others from different cultures and disciplinary perspectives.

The Master of Science in Finance (MS) program is a rigorous 30 credit immersion in the quantitative and analytical methods and tools used throughout the financial sector.

Building on Drew’s two decades of success with our unique Wall Street Semester and strong ties to the financial services industry, MS students receive the training and credentials needed to succeed in careers in a variety of organizations, including banks, financial firms, global corporations, government agencies and nonprofits.

Unique to the Drew MS in Finance program, participating students will have opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills through financial internships, in the real world, after completing classroom coursework. Likewise, Drew’s co-curricular programming includes guest lectures and trips into NYC to visit financial firms, regulators, and even nonprofits centered on promoting ethical financial behavior and financial literacy.

The Graduate Pathway in Data Analytics will prepare you to enter your next semester of a master’s degree program at Drew University. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Pathway and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next year of graduate study at a number of well-known US universities. Data Analytics
The digitization of information—social networks, business transactions, healthcare records and more—has transformed the world, necessitating a demand for people who understand all of the big data being collected and who can take action to help individuals, corporations and organizations become smarter, faster and ultimately more effective.

Through Drew’s Master of Science and graduate certificate programs in Data Analytics, you will:

• Learn how to obtain, prepare and manage data from a wide variety of sources.
• Gain mastery of data analytical techniques.
• Leave with a portfolio of projects and work experience from experiential learning projects and internships.

Psychology
The Psychology Department’s mission is to teach psychology as a research science in the context of a liberal arts education through a comprehensive curriculum and innovative pedagogy. Our curriculum provides a grounding in all the main core areas of the discipline, but also allows opportunities for students to do independent research and to study specialized, interdisciplinary and applied topics.
Because the total number of credits required to complete the major is limited, students are also able to take advantage of the full range of liberal arts courses offered at Drew. Our pedagogy promotes a high quality education by emphasizing excellence in teaching, research methodology, experiential learning, mentoring, independent study and utilization of technology.
