The biology major offers students the opportunity to study the biological basis of life from a wide range of perspectives, from ecosystems to organisms to cells and molecules. The Department of Theatre and Dance trains you in the full range of theatrical disciplines, providing you with mentorship and support in creative expression, critical thinking and personal development. Our goal is to create total theatre artists.
The Theatre department at Drew is dedicated to a broad-based study of the history, literature, theory and practice of theatre and its various disciplines in the context of an overall liberal arts education. Students grow as artists through rigorous academic courses, internships, exciting opportunities for professional collaboration and an extensive co-curricular production program that centers on student initiative.

The Psychology Department’s mission is to teach psychology as a research science in the context of a liberal arts education through a comprehensive curriculum and innovative pedagogy. Our curriculum provides a grounding in all the main core areas of the discipline, but also allows opportunities for students to do independent research and to study specialized, interdisciplinary and applied topics.

Because the total number of credits required to complete the major is limited, students are also able to take advantage of the full range of liberal arts courses offered at Drew. Our pedagogy promotes a high quality education by emphasizing excellence in teaching, research methodology, experiential learning, mentoring, independent study and utilization of technology.

Spanish
The Spanish Department strives to prepare students to participate actively in today’s global world, where Spanish is a major language spoken by over 500 million speakers worldwide. Our program is designed to dually meet the needs of students who are learning Spanish as a second language as well as those students who are bilingual heritage learners.

The language program fosters communicative, proficiency-oriented learning while also providing students with ample opportunities to better understand the diversity of cultures that make up the Spanish-speaking world. Our flexible curriculum for majors and minors draws on rich, interdisciplinary approaches that allow students to explore and engage in the study of literature, linguistics, film and cultural studies across historical periods and across areas of the Spanish-speaking world, including Spain, Latin America, the Caribbean and Latin communities in the U.S.

Students acquire the ability to analyze cultural productions within their specific sociopolitical and historical contexts while also employing critical perspectives that take into account broader frameworks, including class, race, gender, sexuality and power relations. Many of our students refine their linguistic proficiency and cultural awareness by engaging in a period of study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country. Upon graduation, students majoring in Spanish are able to apply their language skills and cultural knowledge across a range of professions in the U.S. and abroad where multilingual and transcultural competence are in high demand.

Italian
The Italian faculty at Drew is committed to providing a rich and stimulating curriculum through the latest pedagogical and multimedia tools. Our courses (language, literature, culture and cinema) are taught entirely in Italian.
Our major in Italian Studies and minor in Italian provide opportunities for students to acquire both proficiency in the Italian language, and a good knowledge and appreciation of Italy’s rich cultural tradition. We also offer courses in English on Italian culture and on the representations of the Holocaust in literature and films. Our alumni tell us that a major or minor in Italian always makes a difference in the job market and have found opportunities in very diverse areas of employment.
We strive to create a cultural and global awareness to make students appreciate the language and the culture of another country, in order to strengthen the intrinsic value of an undergraduate liberal arts education.
Thanks to the vicinity to New York City, students have the possibility to participate in community events (conferences, films, music and exhibitions) related to Italy, and our very active Italian Club organizes field trips, film screenings and lectures with international guests. The weekly Italian table provides another opportunity for students to practice their language skills outside the class. We have also an Italian Theme House, Piccola Italia, for students interested in living in an Italian-like setting.
Finally, students who want a full immersion in the language and culture of Italy can participate in the summer programs in Orvieto and in Cilento or apply for a study-abroad semester in Italy through the Center for Global Education.

Data Analytics
The digitization of information—social networks, business transactions, healthcare records and more—has transformed the world, necessitating a demand for people who understand all of the big data being collected and who can take action to help individuals, corporations and organizations become smarter, faster and ultimately more effective.

Through Drew’s Master of Science and graduate certificate programs in Data Analytics, you will:

• Learn how to obtain, prepare and manage data from a wide variety of sources.
• Gain mastery of data analytical techniques.
• Leave with a portfolio of projects and work experience from experiential learning projects and internships.

Physics provides much of the conceptual foundation and instrumentation fundamental to astronomy, engineering and other sciences. It has inspired the creative work of mathematicians, philosophers and social scientists. Drew’s program is designed to provide rigorous preparation for those planning careers in the field, while also serving the needs of liberal arts students interested in a variety of other careers.

Mathematics
Mathematics lies at the heart of the liberal arts. Based in abstraction and logical reasoning, mathematics is both a body of knowledge and an elegant and useful way of perceiving our world. Through mathematics, we can distill and describe the otherwise hidden patterns and relations among things. Because of this, mathematics finds ubiquitous application, from the natural and social sciences to the humanities and the arts. Precise abstraction and quantification play an increasingly important role in these diverse areas, and the study of mathematics can provide a foundation for any of them.

Chemistry
Drew’s chemistry majors share a love of science and apply their passion to many different areas: from biochemistry and medicines to the environment and synthesizing new materials. They use Drew’s state-of-the-art labs to study chemistry, and all students conduct research mentored by a faculty member or RISE Fellow. With our curriculum approved by the American Chemical Society, Drew’s graduates have great success in research, medicine, teaching and industry.
