Overview
BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY is the study of life at the molecular level. Drew’s abundant research opportunities strengthen your résumé as you look for graduate schools or employment in industry after graduation. Our majors intern at Merck, Johnson & Johnson and other global pharmaceutical companies. Available as a major or minor program of study. The intersection of biology and chemistry provides an integrative focus for understanding the molecular processes of life, and students engage the material using contemporary methods of biochemical analysis and molecular biology. The curriculum consists of required courses which provides a strong background for further study in both fields and electives allow students to personalize their major and pursue their interests in either biology, chemistry, or both. A key component of the BMB program is the pursuit of at least one semester of original research, mentored by a member of the Drew faculty. These opportunities provide close collaboration between students and faculty, and often result in published manuscripts and presentations at national scientific conferences.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

With one foot in the humanities and the other in the social sciences, Comparative Religion is interdisciplinary in nature.
Through their study of world history and its shaping of current events, global comparative analysis and knowledge of ethical standards and practices, Comparative Religion students are equipped to understand multiple perspectives on today’s pressing issues in the U.S. and around the world, and to engage in informed discussion and decision making towards sustainable solutions. History
The History Department at Drew is devoted to providing its students excellent instruction in the interpretation of human experience in the past. Drew offers a broad range of courses in American, European and global history. Together, we ask: were the main tensions, problems, movements, developments at any given point? Who were the primary actors or agents, whether individuals, institutions, social classes, or other groups? What were the prevailing relations of social, political, and economic power, and how and why might these have shifted over time? More broadly, how and why does historical change happen?
Our students learn to do history itself: to locate evidence; develop original arguments in response to the views of others; and use evidence to support one’s own interpretation of the past. It is our great hope that our students continue to draw on modes of historical reasoning and research whatever they may do in life after graduation.

Bachelor of Arts (Intended) in Psychology
The Psychology Department’s mission is to teach psychology as a research science in the context of a liberal arts education through a comprehensive curriculum and innovative pedagogy. Our curriculum provides a grounding in all the main core areas of the discipline, but also allows opportunities for students to do independent research and to study specialized, interdisciplinary and applied topics.
Because the total number of credits required to complete the major is limited, students are also able to take advantage of the full range of liberal arts courses offered at Drew. Bachelor of Arts (Intended) in German Studies
GERMAN STUDIES majors master a language known for its intellectual and creative culture. The language itself is desired and often required for graduate level study in many fields, such as history, political science music or philosophy. Many of our students find that double-majoring in German opens doors for further education and employment. Available as a major or minor program of study.
Drew’s German Studies program offers instruction of the highest quality, emphasizes innovative learning and integrates language, literature and culture. Drew’s proximity to New York City is important because it represents one of the largest concentrations of German culture outside of Europe, and there are regular excursions to Manhattan to experience opera, classical music, art exhibitions and restaurants. On campus, the German Studies program organizes and sponsors speakers, films and concerts. Drew has a chapter of the national German honor society, Delta Phi Alpha. We strongly encourage study abroad and offer opportunities in German-speaking countries.
