Computer Engineering
Do you dream of building a better computer system or neural network that could change the nature of how humans and machines work together? Then you may thrive pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering at Hofstra University.

Computer Engineering students at Hofstra learn to design hardware and software for the computing devices and systems that serve as the foundation for nearly every critical institution in society. Indeed, few degrees are more immediately valuable in today’s workplace. Our graduates move into a variety of well-paying jobs, from software engineering, operating systems development, and the design of hardware systems and complex networks, to creating and managing mobile devices, sensing and control systems, biomedical devices, and more.

An INTO Hofstra Graduate Pathway program in Sustainability will prepare you to enter your next semester of a master’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next semester of graduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Sustainability

Help solve the biggest challenges of our time, from social injustices to climate change, when you enroll in the MA in Sustainability program at Hofstra University. This program takes a balanced approach in trying to understand how to make developed countries more sustainable while also addressing the sustainability crisis in the developing world. With a focus on entrepreneurship, community development and sustainability management, the program teaches students to be part of the emerging green economy. Work one-on-one with a faculty mentor, and develop a curriculum based on your own interests

This is a more intensive program, with more required coursework in fine arts and art history than the BA degree. In addition, students must select a specialization from one of the following areas:

• Ceramics

Children's and YA Literature

The department’s newest concentration draws on the resources and faculty expertise within the English Department and also reaches out to other areas of the University, including child psychology and literacy studies.

This degree offers classes in the study of art and architecture, from cave paintings to new media installations. Students learn about medieval art and works of the Italian Renaissance, the Romantic, Baroque, and Gothic Ages. They learn about artistic movements and how the study of art highlights issues related to politics, culture, and religion.

This program reflects the need within a broad-based engineering curriculum, for a diversity of offerings reflecting the diversity of careers in the engineering field today. Engineering today encompasses many new technologies, but the core educational requirements remain a thorough grounding in mathematics, physical sciences, engineering sciences and design. The Engineering Science degree then allows students to specialize in one of two options: biomedical or civil. Both options integrate design throughout the curriculum, beginning with the first year, and culminating in a year-long major senior-level design project.

Biomedical engineering or bioengineering is designed to bridge the gap between the life sciences and physical sciences by applying engineering concepts, methods and techniques to biology and medicine. An understanding of fundamental physiological processes using engineering methodology requires a broad background in basic engineering, sciences and mathematics. Three emphases (biomechanics, bioelectricity and premedicine) are available to the students. The biomechanics and bioelectricity emphases differ from each other by five courses as outlined below. The course requirements for the premedicine emphasis, which is intended for bioengineering students interested in pursuing health professions, are listed separately.

Accounting
This program qualifies students for general accounting careers in business, but does not satisfy in full the educational requirements for licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York state

Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next semester of graduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Management

The major concentration enables students to establish a strong base of specialized knowledge in one of the areas of study represented in the Zarb School of Business. This complements the skills in the various functional areas of business, as well as the professional leadership and management orientation.           

A career in mechanical engineering lets you create the devices and systems that keep our word humming – everything from the design and building of engines, HVAC systems and industrial equipment and machinery to building and testing aircraft, weapons, robotics, and more.

With a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, you’ll learn to apply principles of engineering, physics, mathematics, and materials science toward a general career in mechanical engineering or concentrate on aerospace engineering. The program is ABET-accredited.

Geography
The BA in Geography is a liberal arts degree that is appropriate for students who want a career that involves qualitative research of communities and cultural phenomena. You'll examine the ways communities interact with their environment and how that shapes public policy and government institutions, and impacts businesses, education, health, and economic development.
