The search for answers to questions like this is part of a field called linguistics - the systematic, scientific analysis of human language. Majoring in linguistics can take you down any number of career paths, among them computer and artificial intelligence-related fields, translation, publishing, editing, anthropology, education, speech therapy, and law.

Required courses for a degree in linguistics include Introduction to Linguistics; Phonetics and Phonology (the study of speech sounds and patterns of sound in different languages); Morphology and Syntax (the analysis of sentence structure and grammar); and a course in sociolinguistics, which explores how language is used in society.

The BA in Television Production and Studies focuses on the creative side of the television industry, from scriptwriting and editing to directing and producing. Choose from courses in television aesthetics and criticism, shows and showrunners, sitcom production, sports reporting and production, digital editing, lighting, and single- and multi-camera production.

The BACHELOR of SCIENCE in COMPUTER ENGINEERING program is concerned with the design of hardware and software for computing devices and systems. Computer Engineering students take a rigorous set of courses in hardware and software related topics. Graduates with a degree in computer engineering typically secure jobs that involve the design of embedded systems, mobile devices, automotive sensing and control systems and biomedical devices to name a few. They are also capable of working in software roles such as software engineering and web and mobile development.

Students desiring intensive study at the undergraduate level to develop proficiency in the fields of computer engineering, such as hardware, software, and embedded systems, will find this program to be a challenging and rewarding experience. The curriculum provides a broad foundation in the science and engineering of computer systems software and hardware, and the design of digital and embedded systems. Civil engineers design and supervise large construction projects, including roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment. The concentration in Networking and Cybersecurity is aimed at educating students in the growing field of cybersecurity.  Security of data and computer systems is one of the most important topics in today's online world. Any application or system must have ways to prevent and protect from cyber attacks, to allow secure access and protection of data stored in distributed locations accessible online. Courses in this concentration offer a hands-on approach to learning networking, security and systems programming. All courses include a significant experiential component.

Philosophy
The BS in Philosophy degree is focused on philosophical areas that are relevant to another professional, technical or scientific discipline. This degree differs from the BA program primarily because it requires students to complete more requirements in a discipline outside philosophy, either through a double major or a minor.
