Literatures in English

Literatures in English is the English major for the 21st century, with courses in British, American, and global English literature.

The Master of Arts in Creative Arts Therapy Counseling program is a 60-credit degree and has been approved by the American Art Therapy Association since 1984.  Graduates of the art therapy program are eligible for licensure in NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) and to sit for the Art Therapy Credentials Board Examination (ATCBE).

Our small, intimate class sizes and diverse student body, as well as the didactic and clinical aspects of the program prepare our students for successful careers in art therapy.  The program features new and refined courses in the areas of ethics, diversity, aging and development, career counseling, and experiential learning.

An INTO Hofstra Graduate Pathway program in Creative Arts Therapy Counseling will prepare you to enter your next semester of a master’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next semester of graduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Creative Arts Therapy Counseling
The Master of Arts degree (MA) in creative arts therapy counseling, currently approved by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), is designed to provide students with a critical knowledge base comprised of content areas identified by both the American Art Therapy Association and New York State Education Department. Graduates will be prepared to work effectively in hospitals, agencies, rehabilitation centers, adult facilities, day treatment centers, mental health centers and schools. Graduates work with individuals who have experienced mental and physical illness, trauma, addictions, changes in living, developmental disabilities, autism, and those who seek personal development. This program is the first step that students take toward achieving New York state creative arts therapy licensure.

This creative arts therapy master's degree incorporates counseling strategies in core courses and selected electives. Our electives include expressive therapies (drama, dance, movement, play, poetry, music) as well as courses in other related disciplines such as counseling, marriage and family therapy, and special education.

With the Master of Arts (MA) in Journalism at Hofstra University, you will develop advanced, multimedia story-telling skills and build a wide-ranging professional network through internships at the nation’s top media companies. Hofstra's award-winning faculty will help you establish a solid foundation of reporting skills and build a portfolio of work across all media – digital, broadcast, and print - through on-campus media outlets, including The Hofstra Chronicle, WRHU Radio, and the online news site, The Long Island Advocate. Students have the option to add a specialization in either Sports and Entertainment Journalism or Community and Investigative Journalism. No GRE is required, and scholarships are available for qualified candidates.

The program will provide a superior education to undergraduate students and prepare them for business analytics careers in business, government, healthcare, and other not-for-profit organizations. It also enhances the students' analytical thinking, skills, and practical experience in this field.

Upon successful completion of International Year One and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of undergraduate study at Hofstra University. This program pairs you with dedicated faculty who help you succeed in your first year at Hofstra University.

Music
This degree offers a broad-based program, with fewer major hours and more liberal arts elective hours.

Applied Mathematics

The BS in Mathematics is appropriate for students planning graduate studies in mathematics or professional pursuits in the field of mathematics. The BS requires the completion of one of seven tracks: mathematics, actuarial science, applied mathematics, chemistry, physics, engineering, or computer science.

The arrival of the Big Data Era has created a significant demand for people who are well - educated in business analytics. The Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics is well - positioned to deliver this program with many faculty members who are scholars and/or have experience in this area.

The program will prepare students for business analytics careers in industry, government, health care and non - profit organizations. This program enhances the students’ critical thinking, analytical skills, and practical experience in this field.

The BA in Philosophy is a broad-based liberal arts degree that is good preparation for a wide range of careers including law, journalism, business, medicine, cognitive science, neuroscience, medicine, and computer science. Students pursuing this degree can pick up a minor or concentration that focuses on law, applied ethics, cognitive science or business.
