Health Informatics
Hofstra's master in Health Informatics is designed to address the foundational concepts of information technology systems in healthcare. Graduates of the healthcare informatics program will be familiar with current health information systems and technologies and will be prepared to analyze, design and manage evolving health information systems for a wide variety of clinical, administrative and research purposes.

Components of the program include:

• Advanced training to prepare students to lead IT-based innovation and transform healthcare delivery, management, and planning.
• Small class sizes.
• Applied experience culminating in a six-credit practicum where students are assigned to rotations at affiliated health information system departments within various health systems such as Northwell Health to obtain hands-on training, experience, and exposure in all disciplines of healthcare informatics.

Philosophy
The BS in Philosophy degree is focused on philosophical areas that are relevant to another professional, technical or scientific discipline. This degree differs from the BA program primarily because it requires students to complete more requirements in a discipline outside philosophy, either through a double major or a minor.

Japanese Studies

The BA major in Japanese provides students with a solid foundation of Japanese language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension.  In addition, through carefully selected foundational and elective courses, students gain an understanding of Japan’s literary and cultural traditions and history.  Students are encouraged to augment their study of Japanese at Hofstra with study abroad.

Video, Television, and Film

The BS in Video, Television, and Film adds a film component to the video/television degree program, with courses such as advanced theatrical production, screenwriting, and cinematography; this degree also requires a media production practicum and coursework in science and computer science.

Urban Ecology
Urban Ecology is a subfield of ecology that deals with the distribution, abundance and interactions of plants and animals (including humans) within urban and suburban environments. Graduates with master's degrees in urban ecology find employment in a wide variety of public and private institutions and agencies, including environmental education, environmental consulting, natural resource management and conservation with both non-governmental and local/state/federal organizations. Some pursue advanced professional degrees.
