Economics - Electricity, Natural Gas, and Telecommunications Economics
The Electricity, Natural Gas, and Telecommunications Economics sequence combines training in basic economic theory and statistical methods with specialized training in the theory, history and institutions of economic of regulation. Students develop skills in analyzing regulatory policy and in communicating the results. In addition, students may have the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience as an intern with an employer in the telecommunications, electric power, or natural gas industries, or with an appropriate government agency.

Graduates are awarded a master’s degree in Applied Economics with a sequence in Electricity, Natural Gas and Telecommunications Economics. Associated with the sequence is the Institute for Regulatory Policy Studies. The institute provides a key link between Illinois State University and the telecommunications, electric power, and natural gas industries.

Students selecting this sequence will be prepared for effective and successful careers as economists, analysts and planners with firms in the natural gas, electric, and telecommunications industries. The option is also suitable for careers with governmental agencies responsible for the regulation of public utilities, consumer advocacy organizations, and firms providing consulting and ancillary services.

This is a STEM designated degree, which focuses on the systematic study of mathematical and statistical analysis of economic phenomena and problems. STEM designated degree programs offer additional benefits for students, including potential grant funded opportunities and, for international students, extended OPT study options.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The Mathematics sequence in the Mathematics major first provides students with a strong foundation in Mathematics and then gives students the flexibility to explore various aspects of the discipline.

There is also the flexibility within the Mathematics major for a student to pursue a minor in a related field of study. Such a program can prepare students for jobs in industry and government as well as prepare students for graduate study in Mathematics.

Spanish
The Spanish program at Illinois State University takes pride in offering small classes where students receive individualized attention and training in all aspects of language proficiency. Just as important, our undergraduates develop critical thinking skills and appreciation for diversity as they take courses in Hispanic cultures and literatures, as well as Spanish linguistics.

The Multidisciplinary Studies sequence of the Interdisciplinary Studies major is built around the offerings of two or more departments or schools. It is intended for the student who is seeking a baccalaureate degree without the specialization of a traditional major. The student, with the help of a faculty advisor, chooses the focus of the program by determining the departments or schools in which he or she wishes to pursue advanced work.

Students who complete the Multidisciplinary Studies sequence will earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree and have their transcripts noted: "Major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Multidisciplinary Studies Sequence."

Middle Level Teacher Education
The Middle Level Teacher Education program at Illinois State prepares candidates with a unique expertise in teaching young adolescents with a focus on grades 5-8.

As a Middle Level Teacher Education student, you are required to choose two subject areas in which to focus your studies. These concentration areas are supplemented with additional courses from related disciplines. Illinois State is the only middle level program in Illinois that requires candidates to have two content areas, giving our graduates greater flexibility in pursuing teaching opportunities and encourages graduates to consider cross-curricular teaching and learning experiences for their pupils.

Middle Level Teacher Education is a vibrant, innovative program that prepares the majority of highly trained candidates for Illinois middle level schools. New candidates become part of the 60-year history of middle level education at Illinois State.

History-Social Sciences Teacher Education
After you finish our program, you will be ready to teach history and other social sciences at the high school level, including AP courses. You will have had real teaching experiences: observations, micro-teaching and finishing it off with a semester of student teaching. You’ll learn more about the topics you’ve always loved – and how to teach them.

This program offers an Accelerated Master's Degree (AMD) sequence. This option gives high-achieving undergraduate students the opportunity to earn a master’s degree with only one year of additional study. Once enrolled in the major, you can contact your advisor to learn more.

The Marketing faculty have designed the Advanced Marketing Analytics (AMA) sequence to allow Marketing majors to concentrate their coursework in preparation for marketing roles that may require more analytical rigor which has become prevalent. The use of analytics is expected to grow rapidly. Students complete three required courses in Business Analytics or Business Intelligence and Introduction to Marketing Analytics and Advanced Marketing Analytics. Students also complete three electives in areas such as Brand Management & Analytics, Sales Forecasting, and others.

Studio Arts Painting
The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline.
