In English Studies, multiple and interdisciplinary perspectives are used to examine and produce texts for audiences communicating in English: How do cultures shape language and how does language shape culture? How do intersections of cultures affect communication across borders? What forms can we create to connect and enter into dialogue with each other?

Family and Consumer Sciences - Fashion Merchandising
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a sequence in Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM). The sequence is designed for professionals seeking advanced study in this area.

This sequence option is most appropriate for individuals interested in careers in the fashion design and merchandising field who have related degrees such as business, especially marketing, public relations, art, and design.

Family and Consumer Sciences graduate students with an interest in the FDM field can choose among seventeen courses that could be included as part of their graduate degree program. The courses offered are in two concentration areas; Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Product Design and Production.

Communication Studies - Political Communication
Political Communication is concerned with being actively engaged with local, regional, state, national, and international issues and how the power of information, persuasion, and strategic message design can be used to understand and affect outcomes at those levels, particularly in the area of governance and governmental and societal behavior. Students become knowledgeable and skilled in the use of political messages to promote causes, candidates, campaigns, etc.

Marketing - Professional Sales
The Professional Sales sequence exposes students to the latest theories and practice in sales education, research, and the profession. Students complete three required courses in marketing and two required and three elective courses in professional sales. The program incorporates existing personal selling and sales management courses, and offers several specialized classes including: Key Account and Relationship Management, Professional Sales Planning and Analysis, and Advanced Professional Selling and Negotiation.

The Technology Education program prepares graduates to advance as technology education teachers in the public secondary schools.

The Technology Education sequence is not a teacher certification program. Certified teachers pursue the degree for professional development. Non-certified students also may pursue the master's in conjunction with other courses required for teacher certification.

Master of Music in Performance students are afforded intensive applied study with a professionally accomplished artist-teacher. Performance degrees are offered in all orchestral and band instruments, as well as in piano, guitar, and voice.

    The MM in Performance prepares you for a career in:

• Symphony orchestras
• Military ensembles
• Broadway
• Opera houses
• Teaching at the college level

    The MM in Performance curriculum includes:

• Applied music
• Music pedagogy and literature
• Analysis for Performers
• History
• Research
• Ensembles
• Electives which could include: Non-degree recitals, music technology, music history, music theory, music education, music therapy, music business, applied music, jazz studies and non-music courses
• A written comprehensive exam and a recital are required for graduation.

The Theatre Studies major provides you with a broad-based, hands-on education in theatre within the context of a liberal arts degree. After completing a strong core of theatre courses, you have the flexibility to choose specialty courses based on your interests and career orientation in the following areas:

Information Systems - Web Application Development
The Web Application Development major is a sequence in Information Systems.

Information Systems (IS) is at the heart of any organization. Companies rely on information to make good decisions, create new products and services, and understand their target audience. IS professionals integrate hardware and software to help organizations manage their information.

The Information Systems program at Illinois State is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.

The internet hosts many web applications. From search engines to recommendations on what your next online purchase should be, web applications are the intelligence behind the websites we visit every day.

In this major, you learn how to code and design web applications that solve real-world issues and power engaging websites. We cover topics such as:

• Client and server-side scripting – write instructions for either a web browser or server to perform
• Web interface design – make sure websites are easy to use
• Web frameworks – create templates that make the development process faster
• Mobile application development – design software for smartphones and tablets
• Web database processing – learn how information is stored and retrieved on the internet
• Web application testing and evaluation – identify weaknesses in software and come up with solutions

Art History
Students pursuing the Art History sequence benefit from a varied menu of course offerings, which reflects the broad range of expertise and interests of the Art History faculty.

The study of Art History examines specific works of sculpture, painting, architecture, and other art forms, both as expressions of human creativity and as uniquely informative historical documents. Through such investigations students gain a greater aesthetic appreciation of art and a deeper understanding of its purposes in different times and places.
