German
The German major offers courses in literature, culture, and language within a setting that stresses frequent and informal interaction of students with faculty and with visiting German students on campus. Students can study literary greats from Goethe to Kafka, examine fairy tales or popular song texts, and learn about the latest developments in the European Union. Honors students and students who are merely interested have deciphered letters written by 19th-century German immigrants; and all are welcome at weekly informal gatherings where our local German students often form bonds with visiting students from Germany.

The Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences graduate sequence emphasizes study in basic research content areas (e.g., behavioral neuropsychology, conditioning, perception, learning, memory, psycholinguistics, and cognitive development) and the development of quantitative and methodological skills. The sequence focuses on three content areas: behavioral, neuroscience, and cognitive science, which provide a critical foundation for advanced graduate study and can facilitate entry into research-related careers in non-academic settings. The objectives of this sequence include building a solid foundation of basic psychological research, which will help students understand and explain behavior.

The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

Communication Studies - Organizational and Leadership Communication
The Communication Studies - Organizational and Leadership Communication sequence enhances communication knowledge, understanding, and skills for enhancing organizational relationships. The goal of this sequence is to equip the student to successfully use communication as a tool to enhance organizational outcomes. Students will gain an understanding of how communication processes can be used to manage behaviors in an organizational context while becoming a competent communicator.

Agriculture - Crop and Soil Science
The Crop and Soil Science sequence emphasizes the scientific aspects of agronomy including improving plant production, quality, and profit by utilizing plant genetics and breeding and improving the soil physical, chemical and microbial characteristics to enhance crop production.

Dance Teacher Education
Illinois State University proudly houses the only Dance Teacher Education licensure program within the state of Illinois. We are uniquely positioned to fully prepare undergraduate students interested in teaching careers in the public schools, as well as in the private sector. We provide a challenging yet nurturing environment that prepares students for the diverse career options within the field of Dance Education, helping them achieve teacher licensure for grades 9–12.

Students in this sequence will develop a range of knowledge, skills, and competencies consistent with national and state dance standards while preparing them for a variety of diverse teaching experiences. The structure of the Dance Teacher Education sequence is based on our belief that technical, creative, theoretical, and kinesthetic work will merge to support one's total growth as a dancer and educator.

The program is supported by a diverse and ambitious nationally recognized faculty, bringing a wide variety of movement styles and teaching philosophies to the program. Dancers will develop their knowledge and skills through coursework that includes choreography and improvisation, dance history, multicultural perspectives, dance kinesiology, dance pedagogy, and professional development courses that focus on different teaching methods.

As a crowning achievement, students complete a Senior Seminar course alongside a semester of student teaching, helping them achieve the practical experience necessary for working in the profession. Additionally, students have opportunities to study abroad, work with a variety of guest teachers, and network with Illinois State alumni currently teaching in the field.

The course framework for the Biochemistry program provides a solid foundation necessary for advanced study in medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, chemistry and biology, as well as forming the basis for entry-level positions in the pharmaceutical and biotechnical industries. While the degree requirements may satisfy many professional or graduate programs, it is important to consult the admission requirements as early as possible for the particular programs at schools to which the individual is likely to apply. Additional coursework may be taken as electives which may be applicable to postgraduate work.

The Music Therapy sequence provides academic content and clinical experiences related to competencies outlined by the American Music Therapy Association.

Students who complete the Music Therapy degree are eligible to sit for the national board certification exam to obtain the credential MT-BC (Music Therapist - Board Certified), which is necessary for professional practice.
