Engineering Technology at Illinois State University is an applied program that allows students to explore the integration of engineering principles and modern technology. The courses in Engineering Technology focus on the management of people, processes, and materials through hands-on, application-oriented activities. As a result, our students are well equipped to become technically-oriented managerial professionals and leaders in business and industry.f

The interdisciplinary Creative Technologies major emphasizes design and practice in the integration of digital technologies and the fine arts.

In addition to foundational study across the fine arts, the major provides training and experiences across a range of creative/technical fields, including:

Quantitative Economics is an interdisciplinary program between the Economics and the Mathematics departments. The sequence is designed for students who intend to pursue a double Master’s in Applied Economics and Mathematics/Statistics, for students interested in the quantitative aspects of Economics, and/or for students interested in enhancing their mathematics skills to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics in the future.

In addition to 22 hours of core courses in economic theory, you will take 12 or more hours of graduate-level math courses.

This is a STEM designated degree, which focuses on the systematic study of mathematical and statistical analysis of economic phenomena and problems. STEM designated degree programs offer additional benefits for students, including potential grant funded opportunities and, for international students, extended OPT study options.

Majoring in history lets you dive into the topics you are most excited about. Our program offers nearly 100 courses – from the Middle Ages to the American Revolution. You’ll get the opportunity to learn in small classes from a passionate faculty.

Exercise Science is the study of movement and the associated functional responses and adaptations the body makes as a result of movement/exercise.

The Health and Human Performance (HHP) sequence gives you a well-rounded foundation in areas of Exercise Science, including physiology, biomechanics, and sports psychology. HHP also studies how different exercises and fitness programs affect the human body.

Explore the mysteries of the universe. From galaxies to particles, physicists study the world around us and beyond to explain how things work and exist.

The Physics major at Illinois State is broad. You’ll get a diverse curriculum that covers a variety of topics, including:

Music - Composition/Theory Emphasis
Music theory is the study of the inner workings of music composition. Students who enjoy improvising, learning about how music is put together, and digging deeper into the inner workings of the mechanics of music composition may be music theorists or composers.

Composition students with a theory emphasis learn how to write music as a way of understanding its structure from the inside out. They work one-on-one with our composition theory faculty to create original research in the area of music theory.

International Business
Illinois State University is the only public university in Illinois offering a major in International Business. If you have studied a foreign language in high school, if you want to major in business, if you are interested in the international expansion of business, then this is the right major for you!

International Business is an interdisciplinary program, combining core courses in general business and foreign languages with advanced courses in international business. Students choose a specific concentration from marketing, finance, insurance, management, business information systems, or accountancy. Advanced courses in business look not only at international activities in the different majors, but also at the way cultures affect business and the legal environments of different countries.

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a sequence in Interior Design. The master’s program expands knowledge on creativity, sustainability, health and wellness, and evidence-based design.

Students can tailor this sequence to focus on theory and research and further develop their design skills in commercial design, cultural/global design, healthcare facilities design, and universal design. The sequence is suitable for both designers and architects who want to teach or become research practitioners, as well as those who want to advance their undergraduate degree as a practitioner in the field.
