Civil Engineering
Civil engineering is the design, construction, and maintenance of public works, including roads, bridges, harbors, etc. At Oregon State University our programs in civil engineering prepare students to become working professional civil engineering and academic researchers who study civil engineering problems. Chemical Engineering
Chemical engineering is the study and modeling of systems where heat and fluid flow are coupled with chemical reactions. Examples of systems are the human body, ground water, the atmosphere, the ocean, and chemical reactors. Natural systems are measured and modeled in order to understand present and future behavior. Man-made systems are specifically designed to convert raw materials into more useful products.

Making useful products requires using mathematics and science to plan, develop, design, operate, and improve processes. Some processes are micro-scale, as in computer chip manufacturing, and some are large-scale, as in petroleum refining. Typical products from these processes include computer chips, solar cells, batteries, pharmaceuticals, plastics, synthetic fibers, composite materials, pulp and paper, and consumer products ranging from detergents to cosmetics. Chemical engineers find employment in large high-tech companies, environmental consulting firms, large commodity companies and small software companies. Employment prospects for graduates in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest are strong.

Physics
The Department of Physics at Oregon State University offers degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree or Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physics within the College of Science. Energy Systems Engineering
The bachelor of science in energy systems engineering combines engineering fundamentals with energy-focused technical courses and business management classes. Construction Engineering Management
Our construction engineering management (CEM) undergraduate program prepares students with the tools they need to become construction engineers and managers in all areas of the construction industry. The program emphasizes practical applications as well as basic principles. Students are given many hands-on experiences in the laboratory and are involved in numerous field trips to supplement classroom activities. CEM graduates find employment in all phases of construction: commercial and industrial building, heavy/highway, structures, utilities, and civil projects. They are employed by general constructors, subcontractors, suppliers, developers, homebuilders, consultants, and governmental agencies. They work as project engineers, project managers, field and office engineers, estimators, as well as in other positions.

As an architectural engineer, you’ll spend your days finding new ways to improve quality of life through the built environment. Whether designing the acoustics for a new performing arts center or engineering a coastal building that can withstand a Category 5 hurricane, you’ll have a direct hand in creating a safer, more sustainable, more beautiful world for generations to enjoy.

The Biology Major delivers interdisciplinary training relevant to a wide variety of life sciences careers. Students can choose to specialize in one of eight transcript-visible options or select from a wealth of coursework to meet specific interests. Biology is a common home for pre-veterinary medicine, as well as pre-medicine and other health professions.

Public Health
We offer the most comprehensive range of accredited public health graduate degree program in Oregon and are gaining momentum and enthusiasm as the state’s first accredited college of public health. Our public health program is built on the foundation of environmental health sciences, biostatistics, epidemiology, social and behavioral sciences, and health management and policy.
